Hermann Heinrich Kasimir von Colard (born February 11, 1857 in Stanislau , † April 8, 1916 in Biała near Tarnów ) was an Austro-Hungarian general of the infantry .

Life

origin

He came from a French aristocratic family who immigrated to Austria during the Thirty Years' War . In the eighteenth century the family changed their name from "de Colard" to "von Colard." Hermann was a son of the Austro-Hungarian officer Hermann Ignaz von Colard (1828–1865) and was accepted into the nobility in August 1907.

Military career

After attending the St. Pölten Military College , he attended the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt from 1872 and was retired as a lieutenant in the 10th Infantry Regiment in autumn 1876 . On May 1, 1881, he became a first lieutenant , attended the war school in Vienna and joined the General Staff in May 1883 . From October 1, 1886, he served as a general staff officer in the command of the XI. Corps and was promoted to captain 1st class on November 1 of the same year . On May 1, 1893, he was promoted to major in the General Staff. From May 1, 1889 to November 1, 1891 Colard worked in the headquarters of the General Staff in Vienna. In 1892 he did active service in the Infantry Regiment No. 100 in Cracow . On February 1, 1893, he took over as chief of the General Staff of the XV. Corps in Sarajevo and was promoted to lieutenant colonel on November 1, 1895 . In April 1897 he was given command of the 24th Infantry Regiment in Lemberg and was promoted to colonel on November 1, 1898 with the rank of December 14th . On October 18, 1902, he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 3rd class. On March 31, 1905, he took command of the 6th Infantry Brigade in Salzburg and was promoted to major general on May 1 . On October 17, 1908, he was appointed commander of the 24th Infantry Division in Przemyśl .

On the occasion of the jubilee of Emperor Franz Joseph's throne , the Prince of Wales visited the Przemyśl fortress and awarded Colard the Cross of the Order of Victoria on April 17, 1909. On May 1, 1909, he reached the rank of Lieutenant Field Marshal , and on September 15, 1910, he was awarded the Leopold Order. On May 29, 1912 he was appointed commander of the Przemyśl Fortress. On January 31, 1914, he was appointed President of the Supreme Military Court, where he organized the implementation of a new Code of Criminal Procedure.

In the world war

On August 22, 1914, he received the title of Privy Councilor and on September 1, he was promoted to General of the Infantry. He was decommissioned on July 11, 1915. Finally, on August 1, 1915, he was appointed governor and military governor of the Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria by the emperor , where he led the reconstruction of the part of the country devastated by the chaos of war. Colard died on April 8, 1916 at the age of 59 after a short period of employment.

On February 11, 1888, Hermann von Colard married Miss Paula Alexia Österreicher (1867–1931) in Lemberg, with whom he had two children:

  • Guido Hermann Karl (born June 18, 1894 in Sarajevo)

On March 21, 1917, his family was given the status of baron by Emperor Karl I and was thus given a pension.
