Hermann Felix Emil Stanislaus von Kalinowski (born March 26, 1823 in Wesel , † January 13, 1886 in Hermsdorf, Friedeburg district, Neumark ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Hermann was a son of the Prussian major and head of the garrison company of the 14th Division Alexander von Kalinowski (1775-1836) and his wife Josefine, née Klose (1792-1861). His brother Albert (1826–1887) also became major general.

Military career

After attending grammar school in Wesel, Kalinowski joined the 17th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on March 26, 1840 and was promoted to second lieutenant by the end of October 1841 . From April 29, 1844 to October 11, 1845 he was in command of the 7th Combined Reserve Battalion and from October 1, 1846 to September 30, 1847, the 7th Artillery Brigade. During the suppression of the Baden Revolution , he took part in the battles near Philippsburg, Waghäusel, Bischweier and Kuppenheim in 1949. In January / February 1850 Kalinowski was assigned to the rifle factory in Sömmerda for training purposes . Promoted to Prime Lieutenant on April 18, 1854 , he was commanded from March 1 to October 31, 1856 and from December 25, 1856 to May 15, 1860 as a company commander in the 2nd Battalion in the 17th Landwehr Regiment. After his promotion to captain, he was assigned to the 17th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 8th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 57 emerged at the beginning of July 1, 1860 . There he was appointed company commander on September 19, 1860 , and from February 14, 1861, he was employed as a member of the military shooting school under position à la suite of his regiment. On April 18, 1865 he came with a patent from January 8, 1858 as a company commander in the 1st Silesian Grenadier Regiment No. 10 , rose to major in mid-October 1865 and on February 6, 1866 he became commander of the 1st battalion.

During the German War of 1866 Kalinowski fought at Zuckmantel and Königgrätz . After the war, he was appointed director of the military shooting school on September 11, 1866, with the position of his regiment à la suite, and was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle, IV class with swords, on the occasion of the festival in January 1867 . He was promoted to lieutenant colonel in mid-June 1869 and when he was mobilized on the occasion of the war against France at the end of July 1870, he was given command of a battalion in the 2nd Brandenburg Grenadier Regiment No. 12 (Prince Carl of Prussia) . After the death of Reuter's regiment commander, he led the regiment for the rest of the war. Kalinowski took part in the battles at Spichern , Vionville , Gravelotte , Tapes, Bellevue, Woippy, Azay, Mazange and the Braybach, at Beaune-la-Rolande and Le Mans as well as the siege of Metz .

Awarded both classes of the Iron Cross , he was again director of the military shooting school on March 20, 1871 under position à la suite and in mid-August 1871 promoted to colonel . For his work in the introduction of the new Mauser Model 71 infantry rifle , he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle III on April 11, 1872. Class with a bow. From October 16, 1873 to June 1, 1875 he was in command of the 4th Pomeranian Infantry Regiment No. 21 . Subsequently, Kalinowski was put up for disposal with the character of major general and a pension . He died on January 13, 1886 in Hermsdorf (Friedeburg district, Neumark).

Kalinowski married Hermsdorf Marie von Moltke (1838-1893) on October 8, 1861 . The couple had several children:
