Wilhelm Georg Felix Albert von Kalinowski (born October 31, 1826 in Wesel , † May 8, 1887 in Kassel ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the 17th Infantry Brigade .

Life

Albert was a son of the Prussian major and head of the garrison company of the 14th Division Alexander von Kalinowski (1775-1836) and his wife Josefine, née Klose (1792-1861). His brother Hermann (1823-1896) became a Prussian major general.

Military career

After attending grammar school in Wesel and the cadet houses in Potsdam and Berlin , Kalinowski was transferred to the 16th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army on August 10, 1843 as a characteristic secondary lieutenant . At the beginning of January 1844 he received the patent for his rank. For training purposes he was assigned to the rifle factory in Sömmerda in autumn 1848 and to the infantry training battalion from April to September 1855. Promoted to Prime Lieutenant on May 13, 1856 , he was in command of the 2nd Battalion in the 16th Landwehr Regiment in Iserlohn from February 21, 1857 to June 17, 1859 . During this command he rescued a servant named Wiggen from drowning from a pond near Bochum and was awarded the rescue medal on the ribbon on November 17, 1857 . After his promotion to captain on May 1, 1860, he was assigned to the 16th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 7th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 56 emerged in early July 1860 . Kalinowski was appointed company commander on September 19, 1860 and in this capacity returned to his regular regiment on February 23, 1861. During the mobilization on the occasion of the German War in 1866 he was leader of the Soest Occupation Battalion of Landwehr Regiment No. 16.

As a major, Kalinowski was appointed commander of the II battalion on March 22, 1868 and took over the I battalion on October 1, 1869, until he was seriously wounded in the battle of Vionville on August 16, 1870 during the war against France led. Awarded the Iron Cross and the Mecklenburg Military Merit Cross, Second Class, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1873 after his recovery . On May 27, 1875 he was aggregated to the 1st West Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 6 and assigned to represent the regiment commander.
