Hermetico - The invisible region (Original title: The Fiction Makers ) is a British television film by director Roy Ward Baker from 1968 . Roger Moore plays the leading role of Simon Templar . The film premiered as a two-part series in the Simon Templar television series on December 8 and 15, 1968 on the British television station ATV (Associated TeleVision). On July 1, 1977, it was released in German cinemas as a feature film. It is based on a novel by Leslie Charteris . After Moore's success with the television series Simon Templar in Germany, the film was also evaluated there as Simon Templar - The Invisible Region .

action

After attending the premiere of the new film adaptation of a Amos Klein novel, Simon Templar accompanies a friend, the publisher of the novels, in his office. There the two find two intruders who, however, can escape. It turns out that the burglars stole the secret address of bestselling author Amos Klein. Templar learns that Amos Klein is just a pseudonym because the author avoids the public. He instructs Templar to take care of the protection of the author. He is amazed to find that Amos Klein is the pretty Joyce Darling. Shortly afterwards, several men disguised as police officers kidnap Templar and Darling. When Templar wakes up from his faint, he is in the country house of the businessman Warlock. Templar poses as Amos Klein and is forced by Warlock to work out a plan for him to raid the British Bank's gold reserves. Templar and Darling manage to escape briefly, but shortly afterwards they are captured again. Warlock then threatens them both with a laser , whereupon the two cooperate. Templar introduces Warlock to the plan he and Darling wrote. During the preparations it comes to light that Amos Klein is actually Simon Templar. Warlock then holds Darling hostage in his country house, while Templar has to accompany him to the robbery. Although this succeeds, Templar can trigger the alarm, whereupon Warlock has to leave the prey behind. Templar manages to escape and returns to the country house. Darling has already freed himself there. When Warlock shows up to kill them both, he gets caught in the laser beam himself.

background

  • The film shows parallels to Goldfinger , in which a similar laser is used and a raid on a gold depot is also planned.
  • The opening credits with the well-known stick figure were produced by Chambers + Partners.
  • Numerous contributors from the Simon Templar television series were also involved in this film.
  • The studio shoot took place at the Associated British Elestree Studios.

publication

Hermetico - The Invisible Region is one of the two Simon Templar feature films that were made parallel to the Simon Templar television series , all starring Roger Moore . In Great Britain the film, as well as the second, Simon Templar and the Sicilian Mafia (1969) , was shown as a two-parter within the series, but in many other countries there were also theatrical releases. The shortened German version was shown as a full feature film in 1977 in the cinema and for the first time on free TV on September 12, 1998 on SuperRTL .

criticism

"A James Bond-style, mostly lame mixture of adventure film and mistaken comedy."

"Cheap variant of 007-" Goldfinger "."
