Fibrillation of the Heart is a 1971 film by the French director Louis Malle .
action
The film is about fifteen-year-old Laurent Chevalier, who grew up in Dijon, France, in the 1950s . His father Charles is a gynecologist and is conservative, his Italian mother Clara treats her three sons, especially Laurent, more like a sister than a mother. Laurent and his brothers discover the world by secretly visiting bars. Laurent had his first sexual experience when his brothers introduced him to the prostitute Freda.
When Laurent is diagnosed with fibrillation, his mother accompanies him to the cure. In the hotel, which is fully occupied, a room was booked for mother and son by mistake. Laurent is interested in two girls of the same age in the hotel, Hélène and Daphne, and he watches his mother in the bathtub. Over time, the relationship between the two grows closer. On July 14th, the French national holiday, which is celebrated with a lot of alcohol, Laurent and Clara finally end up in bed together and have sex. Afterwards, Clara tells him that this story will not repeat itself, but neither of them should look back on that night with regret. Laurent leaves the room, makes a fruitless attempt to seduce Hélène, and then spends the rest of the night with Daphne.

criticism
“The adolescent development of a 15-year-old under the sign of sexual experiences and their influence by the environment. The focus is on the boy's relationship with his still young, erotically attractive mother, which leads to incest. The violation of taboos is, however, consequently and almost naturally derived from the development and living environment of the youthful hero. The film is characterized by extraordinary ability in the believable and unobtrusive design and, above all, in the management of the young main actor. "
