action

Michael Chapman's time as a successful child star is long gone. As a third-rate artist agent for child stars, he, his brother and his shrill secretary Geena, try to discover a new Shirley Temple in order to save the agency from ruin. In search of a profitable talent, he comes across ten-year-old pickpocket Angie, who is caught stealing and rescues herself from the situation with a performance that is ready for the stage. Michael sees his chance and takes the little kleptomaniac under contract. When Angie moves into his bachelor apartment and turns his life upside down, he is no longer so sure of his happiness. Because Angie is a nightmare for every manager! But the more the two get to know each other, the more Michael takes little Angie into his heart. And Angie too begins to open up to Michael and no longer hides from her feelings. But then suddenly everything gets out of hand and the existence of the agency is at stake. Because Angie could only be contracted with the permission of her legal guardian. Since she pretended that her father was dead, her sister had to sign the contract. But it turns out that Angie's father is alive and living in a clinic for alcoholics. If her father doesn't sign the contract, Michael's agency will have to pay for all the costs of the commercial. The whole situation worsens when the agency's main client resigns. After an argument, Angie moves back to live with her sister. Michael arranges a meeting between Angie and her father and they both get closer again. Thanks to Angie's help, the client that is so important to the agency returns. When a little girl with an incredibly good voice sang for the agency, everything turned for the better. The girl is immediately signed and the agency is saved.

Roger Ebert wrote in the Chicago Sun-Times on June 4, 1993 that the comedy was a warm re-use of elements from many other films. There is nothing in the script that has not been used previously, but there are some “nice twists” . The portrayal of Christina Vidal makes the film "viewable" , while Michael J. Fox mostly looks lost.

film-dienst wrote that the film was “a sympathetic, carefully staged comedy closely based on relevant models, which, despite all the turbulence, also struck a thoughtful tone” . He was "right down to the supporting roles and played convincingly" .

Awards

Christina Vidal received the Young Artist Award in two categories in 1994 . David Krumholtz and the film in the Outstanding Comedy category were nominated for the same award.

backgrounds
