The raised bog and grassland on Heiddeich is a nature reserve in the Lower Saxon community of Rastede in the Ammerland district .

The nature reserve with the sign NSG WE 248 is 53 hectares in size. It is located east of Rastede on the edge of the Geest in the transition area to the Weser marsch . It is bounded in the east by a road, which is also the border between the Ammerland district and the Wesermarsch district , in the south by the dam of the former Oldenburg – Brake railway line and in the west by the Schanze river. The high moor area is crossed by the Heiddeich, which was supposed to protect the Wesermarsch settlers from the surface water of the Geest flowing down.

The moorland west of the Heiddeich is predominantly characterized by moor birch forest. In the past, peat was extracted from the surface in this area . In treeless areas of the bog, pipe grasses , cotton grasses , peat moss and rocking lawns can be found. The layers of the raised bog in the protected area are sometimes up to three meters thick. Parts of the green areas in the protected area are used for agriculture as grassland , parts are also fallow .

The area is drained u. a. through the ski jump, which merges with the Rasteder Bäke northeast of Rastede and forms the Jade .

The area has been a nature reserve since August 5th, 2006. The responsible lower nature conservation authority is the district of Ammerland.
