The XL 185 S motorcycle is a Japanese Enduro from Honda , which was built between 1979 and 1999.

Model history

Scramblers were very common in the 1960s. These are street motorcycles with a raised seating position, the off-road suitability of which has been somewhat improved by means of coarse tires and higher exhaust systems. At the end of the 1960s, Honda launched a series of SL models that initiated the transition from Scrambler to Enduro. z. E.g .: Honda SL 90 (1969); Honda SL 175 (1970-1972); Honda SL 70 (1971–1974), renamed XL 70 in 1974 (until 1977)

Variants of the XL 185 S:

  • 1979–1981:
  • from 1982: Changes: cockpit fairing, wiring

Others

The XL 185 S has a 6-volt electrical system that can be converted to 12 V relatively easily. To do this, all the lamps and the flasher relay on the models before 1981 have to be swapped from 6 V to 12 V. For the models from 1981 onwards, it is a little more complex, as they have a 6 V rectifier. The engine was also available as a 125 cc version and with a little more power (18 hp) in the XR 185. This engine is still built in a slightly modified form (as of 2012) under some Chinese licenses (Zongshen, Lifan ).
