career

Ten years of the Regionalliga, 1964 to 1974

The offensive player Horst Lunenberg, who came from VfB Hermsdorf to the Red-Whites from Spandauer SV in 1964, completed 22 league games under coach Heinz-Ludwig Schmidt in his debut year in the then second-class Regionalliga Berlin, 1964/65 , scored eleven goals and reached with teammates like Udo Cieslik , Bernd Erdmann and Siegfried Zocher the runner-up with one point behind Master Tennis Borussia. Entry into the Bundesliga promotion round in 1965 was denied to the Berlin runners -up in 1965 due to the limitation to eight participants. In his second regional league season, 1965/66, it was enough behind Bundesliga relegated Hertha BSC and defending champion “TeBe” to third place. Now Lunenburg had scored 13 goals for the team from SSV-Platz on Neuendorfer Straße in Spandau in just 15 missions. He accepted the offer from Tennis Borussia for the 1966/67 season and after 37 league appearances with 24 goals for Spandau in Charlottenburg to the purple and white "violets" of Tennis Borussia.

There followed in 1967, 1968 and 1970 three runners-up championships with President Hans Rosenthal's team , but also the unsuccessful attempts in the respective Bundesliga promotion rounds. In his first two rounds at "TeBe", the newcomer from Spandau scored 54 goals. On November 15, 1966, Lunenburg played in the ranks of the city selection of Berlin in a test match against the national team (0: 1). With his 30 goals in the 1967/68 season, he was the top scorer in the Berlin Regionalliga. The striker had distinguished himself as a four-time goalscorer in the games against his home club VfB Hermsdorf (8: 0) and BFC Südring (4: 3). He scored three times in a 5: 1 against BSV 92 and in a 5: 1 against Hertha Zehlendorf. In the second round of promotion to the Bundesliga in 1968, when he achieved seven plus points from "TeBe", he drove against the competitors Kickers Offenbach ( Ferdinand Heidkamp , Josef Weilbächer , Egon Schmitt , Hermann Nuber , Roland Weida , Gerd Becker ), Bayer Leverkusen ( Hans Benzler , Wilhelm Haag , Leo Wilden , Karl-Heinz Brücken , Helmut Richert ), TuS Neuendorf ( Rudolf Stracke , Willi Kostrewa , Otto Jaworski , Werner Hölzenbein , Helmut Horsch ) and Arminia Hannover ( Winfried Mittrowski , Klaus Forbrig , Hans-Peter Lamparth , Reinhard Wasner ) four goals at. With his teammates Michael Kellner , Walter Jacobs , Peter Eggert , Gerd Wörmer , Georg Damjanoff , Bernd Erdmann , Lutz Steinert , Erhard Foit , Michael Krampitz , Bernd Gersdorff and Hans Tylinski he scored four points against Hanover and three against Neuendorf.

For the 1971/72 season, Lunenburg joined the competitor Wacker 04 from the Reinickendorf district after 92 regional league games with 73 goals for “TeBe” . In his first year with the Lila-Weißen vom Reinickendorfer Wackerweg he was able to celebrate the championship in the Regionalliga Berlin for the first time. In 32 league games, he scored twelve goals. It was an exciting championship race against the teams from Tasmania 1900, Blau-Weiß 90 and his former club Tennis Borussia. The 2: 2 away draw on May 7, 1972 on the final day of the round against Blau-Weiß 90 kept Wacker at the top of the table, as Tasmania had to make do with a 1: 1 at the same time in the home game against Rapide Wedding. With players like Bernd Sobeck and Hans-Joachim Altendorff , it was enough for the championship in Berlin. Against the top teams from Kickers Offenbach ( Horst Gecks , Erwin Kostedde , Sigfried Held ) and Rot-Weiss Essen ( Diethelm Ferner , Dieter Bast , Günter Fürhoff , Willi Lippens ) Lunenburg and colleagues had no chance in the promotion round. They scored five points against St. Pauli and Völklingen finished fourth in the group with 5:11 points.

In the preliminary round 1972/73, Lunenburg and Wacker won the Berlin Cup with a 5-0 win against Hellas-Nordwest on October 18, 1972 - he was a three-time goal scorer. With two runners-up championships, he closed the chapter of the second-rate regional league in 1973 and 1974. He also contributed 31 goals in 60 league appearances. He played a total of 92 regional league games for Wacker, scoring 43 goals. He played his last game in the Bundesliga promotion round on June 8, 1974 in a 3-2 home win against Wattenscheid 09, when he was again able to excel as a goalscorer. From 1964 to 1974, the offensive player had played a total of 221 league games and scored 140 goals for the three clubs Spandauer SV, Tennis Borussia and Wacker 04 in the second-rate Regionalliga Berlin.

Second division, 1974 to 1977

The 31-year-old Lunenburg went with Wacker to the two-tier 2nd Bundesliga . In his debut year 1974/75 he finished 13th with Wacker 04 in the 20-man relay north and scored twelve goals in 35 games under coaches Peter Velhorn and Zeljko Cajkovski . On the start day of the 2nd Bundesliga, August 3, 1974, it was also used in the 1-1 home draw against Rot-Weiß Oberhausen. Under the direction of coach Georg Gawliczek , the routine of the veteran 1975/76 went back to 19 missions with three goals, before he ended his high-class playing career in 1976/77 under coach Klaus Basikow after nine last second division appearances with three goals . From 1974 to 1977, Lunenburg played 63 league games in the 2nd Bundesliga with 18 goals.
