Hugo Eberhard Leopold Unico Graf zu Münster-Meinhövel (born June 30, 1812 in Berlin , † May 6, 1880 in Hanover ) was a Prussian general of the cavalry .

Life

origin

His parents were the later Prussian Major General Gustav von Münster-Meinhövel (1782-1839) and his second wife Henriette Karoline Julie, born von der Marwitz (born January 25, 1789 in Friedersdorf; † October 10, 1872 in Berlin), daughter of the court marshal Behrendt Friedrich August von der Marwitz .

Military career

Münster-Meinhövel joined the 1st Uhlan Regiment of the Prussian Army as a second lieutenant on July 29, 1829, coming from the Berlin Cadet Corps . From 1832 to 1834 he graduated from the General War School . In 1839 he became adjutant , two years later prime lieutenant and a year later adjutant at the General Command of the Guard Cavalry. In 1845 he was appointed Rittmeister in the Garde du Corps , and in 1850 he was transferred to the Royal Adjutantur. In the same year he was promoted to major and was wing adjutant to King Friedrich Wilhelm IV. In the period from 1850 he was Plenipotentiary in St. Petersburg for six years , where he followed Lieutenant General Friedrich Wilhelm von Rauch , who had held this post for 17 years since 1833 had dressed. During this time he was in 1853 lieutenant colonel , two years later Colonel and after returning in 1856 commander of the regiment of the Garde du Corps. He was promoted to major general in 1859. In 1863 he was appointed ambassador extraordinary to the Kurhessischer Hof. At the end of that year he became commander of a combined cavalry division in preparation for war against Denmark , and in 1864 he became lieutenant general and representative of the commanding general of the VIII Army Corps .

From April 25, 1864 to October 29, 1866 he was commander of the 14th Division . In June 1866 it became part of the Elbarmee in the war against Austria and was used at Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . For his achievements in this war he received the order Pour le Mérite on September 20, 1866 . After the war he was from October 30, 1866 to August 9, 1867 commander of the newly established 19th Division . He was then due to illness with board for disposition made, but continued as adjutant general of the king.

In recognition of his many years of service Minster My Hovel received on 22 March 1870 the Red Eagle , First Class with oak leaves and swords on rings and on July 26, 1870 the character as a cavalry general.

He married Bertha Eleonore Beatrix von der Marwitz on October 23, 1851 in Berlin (* July 30, 1817 in Friedersdorf; † April 5, 1879 in Hanover).
