IC 3284 is a circular bar- shaped spiral galaxy of the Hubble type SBR in the constellation Virgo north of the ecliptic . It is estimated to be 347 million light years away from the Milky Way and has a diameter of about 50,000 ly. The galaxy is listed as a member of the Virgo Galaxy Cluster under catalog number VCC 736 . The galaxies NGC 4325 , NGC 4352 , NGC 4368 , IC 3275 are in the same area of ​​the sky .

The Type Ia supernova SN 2008ar was observed here.

The object was discovered by Royal Harwood Frost on May 7, 1904 .
