I Am ... ( english for I Am  ...) is the third official music album of East Coast -Rap musicians Nas for Columbia Records . The two singles Nas is Like and Hate Me Now areon the album. I Am… went from zero to number one in the US album charts, sold 470,000 copies in the first week, and wasverified double-platinumby the RIAA with a total of over two million copies sold in the United States. Due to its commercial appearance, the album received negative reviews from critics, but was still well received by fans, as wasthe 4.5 mics awardfrom hip-hop magazine The Source .

I Am… was originally intended to be a double album, but then became a normal one-disc album due to black copies on the internet. Some of the songs popular on the internet were released on The Lost Tapes three years later . The album has a generous guest list by Na's standards, including the late R&B singer Aaliyah , DMX , Puff Daddy and southern rapper Scarface . The second single Nas is Like was produced by DJ Premier and contains samples in the chorus from the 1994 single It Ain't Hard To Tell from the album Illmatic . The video for this was managed by Nick Quested, but was played less frequently than the video for Hate Me Now with Puff Daddy.

At the Grammy Awards 2000 , I Am… was nominated for Best Rap Album , but was defeated by Eminem's The Slim Shady LP .
