Ibirapuã , officially Município de Ibirapuã , is a municipality in the state of Bahia in Brazil . The population was 7,956 in 2010 (2010 census), who are called Ibirapuens; 8,637 inhabitants are given as an estimate for 2019. The community area is around 788 km 2 . Ibirapuã belongs to the Sul Baiano mesoregion and the Porto Seguro microregion . The distance to the capital Salvador da Bahia is 944 km.

economy

In 2008 the city had a GDP of 000000053950788.000000000053,950,788 thousand R $ with a GDP per inhabitant of 6894.67 real (approx. 3200 EUR). The largest branch of the economy is agriculture with cattle rearing ( Nelore ), horses and mules. According to JUCEB records , the city now has 17 industries and ranks 218 among the developed municipalities of Bahia with 117 shops. The largest employer is the local dairy P&L Davaca. Ibirapuã is the seat of a sugar cane refinery for the production of ethanol .

The city is located on the BA-290 highway , neighboring cities are Nanuque , Lajedão , Teixeira de Freitas and Medeiros Neto . It is divided into the districts ( distritos ) Vila Portela, Vila Capixaba, Juazeiro and the actual city center.

history

The first settlements occurred in the second half of the nineteenth century. The construction of the Bahia Minas Railway had many influences on the surrounding communities. Deforestation in particular brought German settlers and adventurers from nearby Minas Gerais. German settlers are popularly known to this day, as they essentially undertook the reclamation of the primeval forest. In 1945 the village received the name Bom Jesus and was later renamed Ibirapuã in 1953 (the translation of which is Tupi-Guarani, hardwood). The new municipality was established by a state law of July 20, 1962 from the subdistricts of the municipalities of Juerana, Santo Antonio de Barcelona and the city of Caravelas.

Today the city has numerous educational institutions with 10 elementary schools with 1,332 students, 14 pre-schools with 289 students and a middle school with 355 students. However, with the technical progress of the Internet, higher education courses are now accessible to the population through distance learning courses.

Healthcare

Ibirapuã has had its own hospital since 1975 with the resident general practitioner Osmar Silva dos Santos. The hospital now employs four doctors and is well equipped with an ambulance and an emergency room according to the circumstances.

The city enchants with its beauty and numerous waterfalls and the Rio Pato. Ibirapuã and its rural surroundings have been holding a rodeo for years , where the rodeo's most popular cowboys are chosen. In the evening there are numerous events with nationally known bands and the election of the Queen of Vaqueiros (cowboys).
