Ibrahim Abou-Nagie

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ibrahim Abou-Nagie ( Arabic إبراهيم أبو ناجي Ibrahim Abu Nadschi , DMG Ibrāhīm Abū Nāǧī ; * 1964 in theNuseirat refugee camp near Gaza ) is a Salafist German preacher of Palestinian origin.

Abou-Nagie has no academic training in Islamic theology, but is considered one of the leading figures in German Salafism , the fastest growing radical and neo-fundamentalist movement within Islam . In his videos, which are distributed on the Internet, he preaches an extremely repressive interpretation of the Koran . He only differentiates between Muslims and the “ kuffar ” (kāfir, the so-called infidels), against whom the use of force is “legitimate”, the Cologne public prosecutor quoted as saying.

Life

According to his own statements, Abou-Nagie came to Germany from the Gaza Strip in 1982 at the age of 18 to study electrical engineering , but did not graduate. On December 15, 1994, Abou-Nagie became a German citizen . Up to a subsequent tax claim of 70,000 euros in 2007, he ran a business for self-adhesive foils. After his economic failure, which ended in bankruptcy proceedings , Abou-Nagie devoted himself entirely to Islamic proselytizing and received Hartz IV benefits. On June 1, 2012, the Abou-Nagie authorities canceled Unemployment Benefit II because he apparently had unspecified income and was therefore not in need. The father of an adult son and two daughters lives with his family in Cologne - Esch .

The real religion

Together with the Salafist preacher convert Pierre Vogel , Abou-Nagie tried to convert children and young people to Salafist Islam. Young people were repeatedly encouraged to convert to Islam at open-air events . Abou-Nagie teaches Koran lessons in German for children and young people in various mosques in Germany.

Abou-Nagie's German-language internet portal Dierue Religion (DWR) was launched in 2005. At times it was offline, but then accessible again until the association ban in November 2016.

In his regular lectures and seminars, Abou-Nagie and his supporters, who are mainly based in the Bonn-Cologne area, convey "the entire range of Salafist ideology" according to the NRW constitution protection report. The content ranged from religious instructions and interpretations of faith to the glorification of martyrdom in jihad and the advocacy of the death penalty for homosexuals. In his speeches, he warns his followers against the “vicious” Western life: “They want to make us kuffar because they practice the commands of Satan”. The Salafist interpretation of Sharia must take precedence over all laws.

On November 15, 2016, the association The True Religion alias Stiftung Lies was banned by the Federal Ministry of the Interior according to the Association Act, as the association is directed "against the constitutional order and against the idea of international understanding ". The true religion used the information booths to radicalize interested parties and to advertise the terrorist organization Islamic State (Organization) (IS). 140 people are known to have traveled to Syria or Iraq after taking part in Lies! Campaigns to join IS.

Investigations and Proceedings

The Cologne public prosecutor sued Abou-Nagie in the summer of 2011. She accused him of being the head of a Salafist network around the Internet platform Die Wahre Religion , on whose side public crimes and disruption of religious peace were called for. According to Chief Public Prosecutor Rainer Wolf, Abou-Nagie made “recommendations” that legitimized violence and even went as far as destroying people of different faiths. In April 2012, the case was closed due to a lack of sufficient evidence.

In June 2012, Federal Interior Minister Hans-Peter Friedrich initiated an investigation with the aim of banning Die Wahre Religion , which included simultaneous house searches in seven federal states, while he dissolved the Salafist network Millatu Ibrahim in accordance with the Association Act . The Frankfurt Salafist group DawaFFM , which cooperates with the two organizations and against which investigations were also initiated, was banned in March 2013 together with smaller groups.

After Abou-Nagie was accused of inciting the murder of a critic of Islam in July 2012 , the Darmstadt public prosecutor opened an investigation, which it closed the following November because the allegations could not be substantiated.

On October 22, 2013, the Cologne public prosecutor brought charges against Ibrahim Abou-Nagie for social welfare fraud. On 11 February 2016 he was appointed by the Cologne District Court for commercial fraud to the parole suspended imprisonment convicted of thirteen months, he opinion of the Court benefits have referred unlawfully in the amount of 53,000 euros. The Cologne Higher Regional Court rejected the Abou-Nagies appeal in December 2017 as unfounded, making the judgment for social welfare fraud legally binding.

Koran distribution campaign Read!

In autumn 2011, The True Religion began as part of the Lies! with large-scale giving away Koran translations in the pedestrian zones of major German cities. With 25 million copies, the goal of one Koran per household should be achieved. The campaign met with massive political criticism. The then Interior Minister of Lower Saxony, Uwe Schünemann ( CDU ), condemned the action as "abusive extremist instrumentalization of Islam". The project also received criticism from the 12thMemoRise group . She accused the initiators of recruiting fighters for the jihadist - Salafist terrorist organization Islamic State .

The decisive co-organizer was Bilal Gümüs, who was considered to be his “right hand” until Abou-Nagies was rejected in 2016 . On behalf of Abou-Nagies, Gümüs organized the Lies! First in the Rhine-Main area and later nationwide and throughout Europe . -Campaign. For years, addressing people directly during distribution campaigns was an important recruiting mechanism for the Salafist scene. The Lies! Which ended with the DWR association ban in November 2016 ! Campaign was immediately taken up by the distribution campaign We love Muhammad , which Gümüs started together with Pierre Vogel and is considered a follow-up campaign , in which the biographies of the Islamic prophet are distributed.

Evaluation by liberal Muslims

The publicist Lamya Kaddor , first chairwoman of the Liberal-Islamic League , rejects Abou-Nagie's positions and attempts at proselytizing. Kaddor feels that her work has been "thrown back by at least 20 steps" by the Salafist proselytizing campaigns and criticized the fact that the public discussion, because of the actions, revolved primarily around whether "Muslims are generally backward and willing to use violence." Abou-Nagie is one of the relative aggressive and very offensive current within the Salafists. There is nothing wrong with distributing the Koran itself, but the methods and the amount of 25 million for every German household are strange, including the fact that Korans are stacked on wooden pallets and mixed with the crowd like flyers . She sees the action of the Salafists as a PR strategy to stylize herself as a victim and to co-opt other Muslims.
