13-year-old Phillip disappears without a trace. Only after a week does the boy appear again without a word. Yet his behavior remains a mystery to everyone. Phillips' environment is confronted with existential questions that change the whole view of life. After Phillip's return, Astrid looks at her bourgeois life, her work in Berlin's cultural scene from a different perspective, and also questions her previous conception of art. It's harder for her to come to terms with the fact that Phillip has a life of his own. When her son is hospitalized with blood poisoning , Astrid begins to lose her nerve. But Phillip and his little sister still stick to her.

Leading actress Maren Eggert at the Berlinale

The film received 2.3 out of four possible stars in the international reviews of the British trade magazine Screen International and, together with the Italian contribution Paranza - The Clan of Children, took 8th place among all 16 Berlinale competition films . Emin Alpers A Story of Three Sisters and Nadav Lapid's Synonymes (3.0 each) topped the ranking.

During this time , Wenke Husmann goes into the staging as the theme of the film, and thus in Schanelec's way of undermining the realistic staging. Another topic, loss, is linked to Schanelec's own biography: like the main character in the film, Schanelec lost her partner and the father of her children, theater director Jürgen Gosch .
