Ignaz Trollmann , since 1917 Baron Trollmann of Lovcenberg (* 25. November 1860 in Steyr , † 23. February 1919 in Graz ) was in World War I commander of the XIX. Corps of the Austro-Hungarian Army .

Education and early career

After attending the military high school in Mährisch Weißkirchen , he began his studies at the military academy in Wiener Neustadt and was deployed as an active lieutenant in the 14th infantry regiment . He then attended the Austro-Hungarian War School in Vienna and was assigned to the General Staff Service as a captain in 1890 . Initially at the troop headquarters in Innsbruck , he was deployed as a military geographer in Olomouc in 1896 . During his function as chief of staff of the 34th Infantry Division in Temesvár he was promoted to lieutenant colonel in 1900 .

In 1904 he, who had meanwhile been promoted to colonel , took over command of the 1st Landwehr infantry regiment in Vienna. There he received the Order of the Iron Crown, 3rd class.

As major general , he headed the Landwehr Officer Corps School in Graz from 1910 to 1912 . Assigned to the active force, he first headed the 46th Landwehr Infantry Division in Cracow (1913), then the 1st Infantry Division in Sarajevo and finally (as a Lieutenant Field Marshal ) the 18th Infantry Division in Mostar (1914).

First World War

At the outbreak of war part of the XVI. Corps, he was involved in the (failed) Serbian offensive. Nevertheless, he was awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, Second Class, for his outstanding command, and in November 1914 with the Military Merit Cross, Second Class. In December of the same year he took over the Combined Corps and was transferred to the 3rd Army on the Eastern Front . Because of his outstanding participation in the Battle of Gorlice-Tarnów , he received the Grand Cross of the Order of the Iron Crown and the Iron Cross II class in 1915 .

Trollmann now took command of the XIX. Corps and led it in several battles in Galicia . At the Serbian campaign of the Central Powers in October 1915 was the XIX. Corps also involved. In December 1915 Trollmann was awarded the Grand Cross of the Austrian-Imperial Leopold Order .

As part of the 3rd Army, he took part in the occupation of Montenegro in 1916 and stormed the Lovćen Mountains near Cattaro on January 8th . This maneuver had a decisive influence on the outcome of the battle. He then received the Iron Cross First Class, the Silver Military Merit Cross, and was appointed General of the Infantry by Emperor Franz Joseph I on November 13, 1916 .

He remained on the Balkan front and received the title of Privy Councilor in April 1917 and the Knight's Cross of the Maria Theresa Order on August 17, 1917 , which raised him to the hereditary baron status . On January 19, 1918, in recognition of his services to the offensive in Montenegro, he was awarded the Lovcenberg title of nobility .

Old age and death

In December 1918 General Trollmann retired in Graz , where he died in 1919. His grave is in the Trollmann family crypt in the Taborfriedhof in Steyr .
