Ingo is a male name .

Origin and meaning

It is derived from Ingwio , the name of the tribal god of the Germanic Ingväonen people .

Ingo is the short form of name as Ingolf , the name of Ingwios companion (a Comp. With ahd. Wolf for "Wolf", today geleg. As Ingo Wolf to find), Ingo Bald (with ahd. Baldo for "brave" “Kühn”), Ingomar (with ahd. Mar for “announce” or “famous”) and Ingobert (like Ingbert Komp. With ahd. Advised for “brilliant”).

For Catholics, the namesake is Sankt Ingbert , whose death day is October 22nd, 650.

The writer Gustav Freytag made a great contribution to the name recognition with the opening novel “ Ingo and Ingraban ” of his novel series The Ahnen (1872–1880) .
