Origin and meaning
The name Ingrid arose from the combination of the Old Norse words "ingwia" ( consecrated to the tribal or rain god Ingwio ) and "friðr" (beauty).

At the beginning of the 20th century, the name Ingrid was rather uncommon in Germany. From around 1910, however, it became more and more fashionable. From the end of the twenties to the beginning of the fifties he was among the ten most frequently given female first names, in 1934 even the most common. However, its popularity waned during the fifties and sixties, so that today hardly any children are called Ingrid.
