Interlachen is a city in Putnam County in the US state Florida with 1403 inhabitants (as of 2010).
geography
Interlachen is around 20 km west of Palatka and around 80 km south of Jacksonville .
history
The place was settled in the 1870s after the construction of a railway line between Palatka and Hawthorne .
Demographic data
According to the 2010 census, the 1403 inhabitants at that time were distributed among 682 households. The population density was 93.5 inhabitants / km². 79.3% of the population identified themselves as whites, 7.3% as African-Americans , 0.7% as Indians and 0.3% as Asian Americans . 9.8% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 2.7% to several ethnic groups. 24.9% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .
In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 28.1% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 38.1% of all households. 64.4% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.48 people and the average family size was 3.01 people.
25.6% of the population were younger than 20 years, 21.3% were 20 to 39 years old, 24.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 28.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 43 years. 49.9% of the population were male and 50.1% were female.
The median annual income was $ 32,742, with 29.1% of the population living below the poverty line.
In 2000, English was the first language of 73.88% of the population, 25.82% spoke Spanish and 0.30% spoke French .
