The 2013 general election in Iceland took place on April 27, 2013. The 63 members of the national parliament Althing were elected .

There are also four parties in individual constituencies:

  • H: Humanist Party (Húmanistaflokkurinn, last started in 1999, only in Reykjavík)
  • K: Sturla Jónsson (only in Reykjavík South)
  • M: Provincial Party (Landsbyggðarflokkurinn, only in the Northwest constituency)
  • R: Popular Front of Iceland (Alþýðufylkingin, anti-capitalist, only in Reykjavík)

Further developments and consequences of the election

The election was considered to be crucial for the further course of Iceland's accession negotiations with the European Union .

Prime Minister of Iceland was on May 23, 2013 Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson of the Progress Party, which formed a coalition with the Independence Party.
