Jörg Friedrich

Jörg Friedrich (* 1951 in Erfurt ) is a German architect and university professor .

Life

Jörg Friedrich completed his architecture studies in 1978 with the main diploma examination at the University of Stuttgart . He completed part of his studies at the universities of Siena and Perugia (Italy). After working in the architectural offices of Peter Poelzig in Berlin and Joachim Schürmann in Cologne , he set up an office in Venice in 1980 together with Bernd Sammek, Jürgen Böge and Ingeborg Lindner . In 1986 Jörg Friedrich founded the internationally active architecture firm pfp-architekten with headquarters in Hamburg , later also with offices in Genoa and Rome .

From 1983 to 1986 Friedrich worked with Luitpold Frommel at the Bibliotheca Hertziana (Max Planck Institute for Art History) in Rome. Jörg Friedrich then took on teaching positions at the Art History Institute of the University of Hamburg . From 1988 Jörg Friedrich taught as a professor for design and architectural history in Hamburg, in 1992 he was appointed to RWTH Aachen University and in 2000 took over the chair for building theory and architectural theory at Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University in Hanover .

In 1992 Jörg Friedrich was appointed to the Free Academy of the Arts in Hamburg and was chairman of the architecture section from 1994 to 1998. In 2005 he worked at the Accademia di Architettura di Mendrisio in Switzerland . In 2006 he was appointed to the board of trustees for the Fritz Schumacher Prize in Hamburg. He is a member of the Dramaturgische Gesellschaft and the Baukultur Foundation in Berlin. Friedrich has been Dean of the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape at the Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz University of Hanover since 2013 . Jörg Friedrich lives and works in Hamburg, Hanover and Rome.
