Jörg Steinleitner (born April 28, 1971 in Immenstadt im Allgäu ) is a German writer, journalist and lawyer. He writes (also under the pseudonym Felix Tanner) short stories, novels and columns. Since 2020 he has been mayor of the municipality of Riegsee in southern Upper Bavaria .

Life

At the age of four, Steinleitner moved with his parents from Stiefenhofen to Paris , where he attended the French kindergarten and the German school in Paris. In 1980 the family returned to Weiler im Allgäu . Steinleitner attended the Lindenberg high school and graduated in 1990 with the Abitur. He did his military service in the Navy , where he was used on a frigate at the time of the Gulf War . Steinleitner started writing at the age of 14 when his father died. "His early death shaped me, otherwise my life would have been different," the Süddeutsche Zeitung quotes the author in a portrait on the occasion of his writer's anniversary "20 books in 20 years".

Steinleitner studied German and history in Munich for teaching at grammar schools and law in Augsburg and Munich. He also graduated from the journalism school at Danube University Krems near Vienna and worked in various professions, as a construction worker, dairy farmer , tennis trainer and radio host. In 1998 Steinleitner published his first novel 205,293 characters together with Matthias Edlinger , which was initially published by Lagrev-Verlag and then a year later by Kiepenheuer & Witsch . Critics cited this novel partly because of its portrayal of the dominance of brands in the 1990s and its style because of pop literature . Because of the combination chosen by Edlinger and Steinleitner of “easily consumable literary road movie in the main text” and the inclusion of the “historical-cultural dimension in the form of headlines from the 90s in a continuous footer”, the work is also assigned to the new archivists.

With his other works Steinleitner moved away from these literary roots. In 2001 the travel story Sevastopol Sekond Hend was published , in 2004 the novel Hirschfänger (co-author: Edlinger), a kind of modern homeland novel , combined with elements of the detective novel . In 2007 Steinleitner published the documentary thriller The Augustin Stiller case . In the course of researching this book, Steinleitner also solved the real criminal case, documented in the SZ magazine on which it is based. Steinleitner attaches great importance to the conception of his readings. He presents his crime story Tegernseer Seilschaften (2nd place in the election for the crime audience award of the German book trade “Mimi”) together with the actress Victoria Mayer and the film composer and musician Helmut Sinz . Its sound arrangements using “adventurous tools” such as razors or balloons and instruments such as accordion or kalimba make the readings surprising listening experiences. The Anne-Loop thrillers are set on the Tegernsee. The author's family comes from Tegernsee, one of his ancestors was the captain of a Tegernsee ship. Steinleitner is a member of the syndicate .

From 2004 to 2009 Steinleitner was the editor-in-chief of the magazine Buchszene . From 2009 to 2015 he wrote the column "Juristen-Knigge" in the monthly magazine Life & Law. In the same magazine he was responsible for the interview series “vorDenker”. Together with Matthias Edlinger , Steinleitner publishes the edition Die Garnitur in Lagrev-Verlag, in which u. a. the books of the Munich writer and columnist Michael Sailer appear. In 2012 Steinleitner was the presenter of lieblingsautor.tv, an online television interview format in which he asked well-known writers such as Jörg Maurer and Rita Falk about their lives and work. Steinleitner has been editor-in-chief of buchszene.de and author of the “Steinleitner's Week” column since 2013.

In 2016 Steinleitner published his first children's book Juni im Blauer Land , which he wrote together with his 12-year-old daughter Jona Steinleitner . The staged readings from the book published by Arena Verlag and illustrated by Ulla Mersmeyer are framed by the father-daughter duo with accordion music, singing and a hands-on quiz. Steinleitner is the founder of the Foundation for Life and Culture e. V., which supports cultural and existential projects.

The author lives with his family in Munich and Riegsee in the Blue Land. He is the brother of DJ Yves Murasca .
