The Jewish community in Unterschüpf , a district of Boxberg in the Main-Tauber district ( Baden-Württemberg ), existed from the 17th century until around 1870.

history

The Jewish community of Unterschüpf existed from 17th to 18th centuries. Century. For the first time, 1643 Jews are named in Unterschüpf. In 1797 there were eleven Jewish families in the area, and in 1838 the highest number was reached with 64 Jewish people. The Unterschüpf Jewish community maintained the Unterschüpf synagogue , a classroom and probably also a ritual bath . The dead of the Jewish community were probably buried in the Jewish cemetery in Unterbalbach . A Jewish teacher was employed who also acted as a prayer leader. The Jewish community of Unterschüpf was assigned to the district rabbinate in Merchingen .

In connection with the revolutionary years of 1848/49 there were serious riots against Jews and Jewish houses were looted. Even if the undercover citizens themselves were not involved, there was an accelerated emigration or emigration of the undercover Jews. In 1875 only two Jewish residents lived in Unterschüpf and the Jewish community was dissolved.
