NFL career

2004

After the Bills drafted wide receiver Lee Evans in the first round in 2004 (13th pick), the Bills acquired a second first round pick from the Dallas Cowboys , with which they selected Losman (1st round / 22nd pick). Losman was the first quarterback drafted by the Bills in the first round since Jim Kelly in 1983. In addition to Losman, Eli Manning , Philip Rivers and Ben Roethlisberger were drafted as quarterbacks in the first round.

During his first training camp, Losman was injured when he broke his leg in a collision with a teammate. In his first season he was a substitute for quarterback Drew Bledsoe and got little time. In three games, he threw five passes, three of which were caught for a total of 31 yards. With the dismissal of Bledsoe at the end of the season, Losman took over his position.

2005

In his first game as a starter for the Bills, Losman led his team to a 22-7 win over the Houston Texans . During the season he had problems with his accuracy and was replaced by Kelly Holcomb . An injury to Holcombs in the game against the Kansas City Chiefs led to another change. Losman was able to lead the Bills to a victory against the Chiefs. The Bills lost almost all other games, with both Losman and Holcomb as quarterback.

2006

In the off-season, the Bills made several changes in management, as the new coach Dick Jauron was hired. Losman was able to prevail in an open competition at the training camp and was named a starter.

In the 2006 season Losman was able to increase his performance significantly. Losman threw 19 touchdowns and 14 interceptions in 16 games, including several games with over 300 yards thrown. Throughout the season, Losman had made 62.5% of his passes and achieved a quarterback rating of 84.9.

2007

Against the New England Patriots , Losman was injured when he was hit hard by defenseman Vince Wilfork .

“It was just a simple swing pass to the outside to throw a full pass early. But this guy came and hit my knee, ”said Losman, who stayed in the game for two more plays. "I knew from the start that something was wrong, but I figured I'd play a few moves and the pain might go away again."

He had to sit out for the next two games and was replaced by rookie Trent Edwards . Edwards was able to convince and was named a starter despite a Losman who was fit again.

When Edwards injured himself against the New York Jets , he was replaced by Losman, who was able to lead the Bills to victory. In his next game, he threw nearly 300 yards and a touchdown in another win. The next two games were lost and Losman was finally replaced by Edwards as a starter.

Dissatisfied with his position as a backup, Losman demanded a transfer to another team at the end of the season, but without threatening a holdout.

2008

Losman stayed in the last year of his contract with the Bills and replaced the injured Trent Edwards in four games, but could not win a game.

2009

With the expiry of his contract with the Bills, Losman became a free agent, but he could not get a new job with an NFL team. Losman was drafted by the Las Vegas Locomotives in the newly formed United Football League and signed a contract with the team on July 21.

On December 15, 2009, the Oakland Raiders committed Losman after their starting quarterback Bruce Gradkowski was injured. After further injuries to Charlie Frye and JaMarcus Russell , five days later, in the game against the Denver Broncos , Losman came on a brief assignment for the Raiders.

2010-2011

Losman signed a contract with the Seattle Seahawks on May 18, 2010 , but was released on September 4 and finally hired again on November 10 by the Seahawks. He has been playing for the Miami Dolphins since 2011 .
