J. Smith-Cameron

J. Smith-Cameron (* 7. September 1957 in Louisville , Kentucky as Jean Isabel Smith ) is an American actress .

Life and accomplishments

The daughter of an architect participated in the work of the local amateur theater while studying at Florida State University , where she was addressed as J. Smith . She made her debut in a major role in the drama Gal Young 'Un , which received the 1979 Boston Society of Film Critics Award for Best Independent Film . In the film drama Between the Lines (1987) she was seen in a larger role alongside Anne Bancroft , Anthony Hopkins and Judi Dench .

In 1989 Smith-Cameron received the Outer Critics Circle Award for her role in the play Lend Me a Tenor ; in 1991, she received a Tony Award nomination for her role in Our Country's Good . In the film drama Magic of a Summer (1992) she played one of the bigger roles alongside C. Thomas Howell , Juliette Lewis , Helen Shaver and Eliza Dushku . In 1995, 1998 and 2004 she was nominated for the Drama Desk Award . She received the Obie Award for her role in As Bees in Honey Drown (1997) . Smith-Cameron played one of the bigger roles in the film drama You Can Count on Me (2000) starring Laura Linney , Mark Ruffalo and Matthew Broderick , which received both Oscar and Golden Globe nominations . She married the director of this film, Kenneth Lonergan , in 2000 and has one child by him.
