Jacques Siron

Jacques Siron (born November 16, 1949 in Geneva ) is a Swiss double bass player , author and filmmaker. He is particularly prominent as a jazz , improvisation and film musician .

Live and act

Siron, who first learned the piano and cello , studied medicine at the university up to a federal diploma. He received training on the classical double bass at the conservatory in Lausanne . He has been a professional musician since 1975; he is primarily dedicated to jazz and improvisation music. As a double bass player he was active in numerous groups in French-speaking Switzerland, for example with Charles Schneider, Michel Bastet, René Bottlang and Jacques Demierre . In German-speaking Switzerland he worked with Urs Blöchlinger , Hans Kennel , Uli Scherer , Hans Koch , Martin Schütz , Dorothea Schürch , Daniel Mouthon , Christy Doran and Alfred Zimmerlin . With Christoph Baumann he led groups like AfroGarage (with Dieter Ulrich ) or Nuit Balte (with Petras Vyšniauskas ). He is also active in France, where he has performed with musicians from the Lyon-based ARFI such as François Raulin , Jean Méreu , Jean-Paul Autin , Yves Robert and Louis Sclavis , but also with Serge Lazarévitch, Jean-François Canape , and Zool Fleischer and Lionel Benhamou . He has also played with Wjatscheslaw Ganelin , Anatoly Vapirov , Theo Jörgensmann , Nils Wogram , Archie Shepp , Vinny Golia and Steve Lacy . He toured Europe, the Soviet Union, Africa and India. He has also published books and articles on music and improvisation.

Siron composed for his improvising music ensembles, such as the octet Les Passeurs d'Instants , but also jazz and theater music as well as songs for Yvette Théraulaz. He has also created music for Guy Milliard's films and has emerged as a filmmaker himself; he has presented the films pane per tutti (2002) and Thèbes à l'ombre de la tombe (2008).
