James Dillion "Jim" Brush Senior (born September 28, 1879 in New Lexington , Ohio , † April 2, 1966 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

James Dillion Brush Sr. came to Arizona in 1917 and settled in Phoenix, Maricopa County . He ran a grocery store there for five years. He later worked in the Maricopa County Driver Licensing Service. Brush served as a Maricopa County Assessor from 1939 to 1941. He was elected State Treasurer of Arizona - a post he held from 1943 to June 11, 1944. His term of office was overshadowed by the Second World War . Brush has been found guilty of embezzlement of public funds while serving as Maricopa County Assessor. He was paroled from Arizona State Prison in 1947. In September 1962 he celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with his wife Catherine W. The couple married on October 5, 1902 in New Straitsville, Ohio. The marriage produced a son named James F. Brush. Her grandchildren were Grace Catherine Brush, William Brush and James D. Brush II. James Dillion Brush Senior died on April 2, 1966 at the age of 87 in a retirement home in Phoenix.

Since 1920 he and his family were active in the Bethel Methodist Church in Phoenix.
