William T. Brooks

William Thomas "Bill" Brooks (born August 21, 1887 in Round Rock , Texas , † November 12, 1964 in Phoenix , Arizona ) was an American soldier, real estate agent, businessman and politician ( Democratic Party ).

Career

Nothing is known about the early years of William Thomas Brooks. Brooks served in the Fifth Balloon Company during World War I. Around 1920 he moved to the Phoenix area, Maricopa County, and stayed there for the next 44 years. Most of the time he lived in Chandler . Brooks worked as a real estate agent and managed his property unless he held public office.

During the Second World War , he ran unsuccessfully in 1942 for a Democratic nomination for the post of State Treasurer of Arizona. It was not until 1944 that he was elected State Treasurer for a two-year term - a post he held from 1945 to 1947. In 1952 he was elected Corporation Commissioner for a six-year term . Brooks sought re-election in 1958, but suffered a defeat by AP "Jack" Buzard in the Democratic primary. In 1960, 1962 and 1964 he ran again for a post in the Arizona Corporation Commission , but each time without success. In the last election he was defeated by Dick Herbert in the Democratic primary with 43 votes.

He died on November 12, 1964 in a Phoenix hospital. He had been there for nine days after suffering a heart attack while watching the presidential election on television. He was 77 years old at the time of his death. His body was interred in Prescott National Cemetery .

Brooks was elected commander of the American Legion in Chandler three times and was elected the Legion's district commander once.

He and his wife, Pearl E., had at least one son named William T. Brooks Jr. and a stepson named Francis Moore.
