Ernest Garfield

Ernest Garfield (born July 14, 1932 in Arizona ) is an American businessman and politician ( Republican Party ).

Career

Ernest Garfield, son of Emil and Carmen (Ybarra) Garfield, was born in 1932 on the Colorado River in Arizona. His childhood was overshadowed by the Great Depression and the following years by World War II . Garfield served in the United States Army from 1952 to 1955 . From 1962 to 1970 he ran his own insurance company in Tucson ( Pima County ) named Garfield Insurance Agency.

Garfield was in the Arizona Senate . From 1967 to 1968 he was vice chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He also sat on the following committees: Appropriations Committee, Judiciary Committee and Commerce and Industry Committee.

From 1970 to 1971 he served as Deputy Treasurer and from 1971 to 1973 as State Treasurer of Arizona. During his tenure as State Treasurer, he helped reform investment law in Arizona. As a result of his efforts, the state of Arizona generated more interest income during his tenure than all previous Arizona state treasurers combined.

Garfield served on the Commissioner Arizona Corporation Commission from 1974 to 1978 . He chaired The White House Conference on Energy of the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC) during the Middle East oil crises and voted for the approval of the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant .

Garfield graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975 . He received his Bachelor of International Management in 1975 and his Masters in 1976, both from the American Graduate School in Phoenix, Arizona.

After leaving politics in 1979, he pursues various business interests. He works in banking organization, real estate development and publishing. By 2009, he successfully helped 31 banks set up. Garfield chaired the Arizona Governor Commission on Rape Prevention in 1988 and has served on the National Commission on Rape Prevention since 1990 . In 1989 he was a member of the Republican Senatorial Inner Circle and President George HW Bush's task force .

Garfield holds the chairmanship of the following companies: since 1979 in United Bancorp, Inc., since 1994 at Interstate Bank Developers, Inc. in Scottsdale ( Maricopa County ). He has served on the board of the East Valley Institute of Technology Education Foundation since 2004 and on the Arizona Finance Institutions Task Force since 2007 .
