James Edward Kearney (born October 28, 1884 in Red Oak , Iowa , USA , † January 12, 1977 in Rochester , New York ) was Bishop of Rochester .

Life

James Edward Kearney attended No. 27 and DeWitt Clinton High School in New York City . Then Kearney studied at the Teachers College of Columbia University . In 1903 he entered St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers . James Edward Kearney continued his studies in philosophy and Catholic theology at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC in 1908 . He received on 19 September 1908 with a auxiliary bishop in New York , Thomas Francis Cusack , the sacrament of Holy Orders . In 1909, Kearney graduated from the Catholic University of America with a degree in Catholic theology.

He then became curate of St. Cecilia's Church in New York City. Kearney also taught at Cathedral College . From 1928 to 1932, James Edward Kearney was pastor of the parish of St. Francis Xavier . During this time he also taught at Good Counsel College in White Plains and was superintendent for the Catholic schools of the Archdiocese of New York.

On July 1, 1932, Pope Pius XI appointed him . to the Bishop of Salt Lake . The Archbishop of New York, Patrick Joseph Cardinal Hayes , ordained him episcopal on October 28 of the same year at St. Patrick's Cathedral in New York City ; Co-consecrators were the coadjutor archbishop of San Francisco , John Joseph Mitty , and the auxiliary bishop of New York, John Joseph Dunn . The inauguration took place on November 24, 1932 at Mary Magdalen's Cathedral in Salt Lake City . On July 31, 1937 Pius XI appointed him. to the Bishop of Rochester. The inauguration took place on November 11th of the same year.

James Edward Kearney resigned as Bishop of Rochester on October 21, 1966. Thereupon Pope Paul VI appointed him . as titular bishop of Tabaicara . On January 18, 1971, James Edward Kearney renounced the titular bishopric Tabaicara.
