James Olson

James Olson (born October 8, 1930 in Evanston , Illinois ) is an American actor whose acting career includes over 90 roles in productions for film and television. He became known in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s through leading roles in films such as The Love of a Summer , Andromeda - Deadly Dust from Space or Amityville II - The Obsessed .

life and career

James Olson, born 1930 in Evanston, Illinois, first studied at the local Northwestern University with the help of a four-year Edgar Bergen drama scholarship before he was discovered by producer Samuel Goldwyn for the theater in New York and he also played a leading role in 1956 got his adventure production Sharks Attack alongside Victor Mature and Karen Steele .

From 1956 onwards, Olson starred in numerous plays, television series and movies in his thirty-year career.

In 1968 the actor and director Paul Newman gave him the male lead alongside Joanne Woodward in his romantic drama The Love of a Summer .

In 1971 the director Robert Wise engaged him for the role of Dr. Mark Hall in his science fiction novel Andromeda, adapted by bestselling author Michael Crichton , alongside Arthur Hill and David Wayne .

He played other important roles in the 1980s in the horror film sequel Amityville II - The Obsessed and in the 1985 action film The Phantom Commando with Arnold Schwarzenegger , where he played General Franklin Kirby .

Olson made his last guest star appearance in the US detective series Murder Is Her Hobby in 1990.
