Jan Zehrfeld (* 1977 in Munich ) is a German guitarist , jazz musician and composer who became known, among other things, as the front man and arranger of the crossover formation Panzerballett .

Life

Zehrfeld began playing the recorder when he was at elementary school . From 1987 to 1996 he attended the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium in Garching near Munich . From 1986 to 1994 he took cello lessons and was a cellist in the school orchestra from 1990 to 1993, while also singing in the school choir from 1992/1993. In 1993/1994 he played as a cellist with the Garching Symphony Orchestra, founded in 1985, at the Max Planck Institute for Plasma Physics . He initially learned to play the guitar autodidactically, and played in 1995/1996 as a guitarist in the school big band. In 1997 he took electric bass - and in 1997/1998 he took electric guitar lessons , in 1998 classical guitar and piano lessons . From 1997 to 2003 he attended the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich .

Musical work

Zehrfeld originally gained experience in the field of rock music - he was later, among other things, the guitarist of the rock band Rudolf Rock & die Schocker - but made a name for himself primarily as a jazz guitarist. From 1998 to 2001 he studied jazz guitar at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (semester abroad with Raoul Björkenheim at the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki in 2000) and then until 2004 at the Richard Strauss Conservatory in Munich with Peter O'Mara . From 2001 to 2003 he was guitarist in Peter Herbolzheimer's national jazz orchestra . He is a qualified musician and music teacher. In 2009 he took an advanced course at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in Hollywood .

Zehrfeld played concerts with Passport , the Uwe Ochsenknecht Band , The Hilliard Ensemble , The Croonettes, and accompanied well-known musicians such as Wolfgang Schmid , Roberto Di Gioia , Martin Schmitt and Wencke Myhre .

As a studio musician , he worked for Ulf Wakenius , Nguyên Lê , Wolfgang Haffner , Michael Mittermeier , Werner Ponikowski aka "RifKif" (guitarist for Freaky Fukin Weirdoz ), for Sebastian Horn ( Bananafishbones ), Claudia Koreck and Chris Boettcher , and also for TV productions the ranks Sturm der Liebe and Lotta in Love .

In 2004 he founded the Panzerballett formation, where he is responsible, among other things, for creating the compositions and the arrangements.

Teaching activities

Zehrfeld has been teaching at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in Mannheim since 2013 and at the Music College in Regensburg since 2014 . He taught at the Garching Music School from 2002 to 2014, and from 2012 to 2014 he was a lecturer at the Institute for Music Education at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich. He was also a visiting professor at the Munich Guitar Institute (MGI) at Mattias "IA" Eklundh's Freak Guitar Camp in Gothenburg and at the Guitar Institute of Technology (GIT) in Hollywood .
