The Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium (short: WHG ) is a scientific , technological and linguistic high school in the Bavarian city of Garching near Munich that has existed since 1971 and was named after the Nobel laureate in physics, Werner Heisenberg .

history

Due to the poor structure of the old school building and the lack of fire protection, the school was demolished at the beginning of 2012 and replaced by a new building in the same place. In the meantime the school had moved to a container building.

The grammar school is attended by around 1,100 students, including around 450 from Garching, 350 from Ismaning , 100 from Unterföhring and around 200 from the north of Munich . There are around 100 teachers (as of 2018).

The school is run by the " Zweckverband für das Staatliche Gymnasium in Garching near Munich ", in which the city of Garching and the communities of Ismaning, Unterföhring and the district of Munich are united.

School life

Abibac

In the 1999 school year, an Abibac course was offered for the first time , which enables the acquisition of German and French higher education entrance qualifications ( Abitur and Baccalauréat ) at the same time. In 2014 17 students passed the “double Abitur”. The project is only offered at five high schools in Bavaria .

TUMKolleg

The TUMKolleg is a cooperation with the Technical University of Munich . The W seminar paper in the upper level is created at a chair at the Technical University of Munich, as a special support for talented students.

Elective classes

The following elective courses are offered in the afternoons:

In 2005 and 2014 the high school took part in the School as State project .

Tutor program

The tutor program is aimed at students in the fifth grade and aims to help them familiarize themselves with the new school. Under the supervision of a teacher, the participants are looked after by students in the 10th grade. The tutor program comprises three phases: lunch in the cafeteria, homework and practicing learning techniques, as well as games and activities in small groups.

School medical service

The high school has a medical service that is supervised by students. The training of new school paramedics is taken over by former students who are now employed in the rescue service or in hospitals. In addition, students who are rescue workers or first responders are deployed.

School radio

An internal school radio program has been produced at the Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium since the 2011/2012 school year. Before the school holidays, an approximately twelve-minute program is produced and broadcast over the home radio. Each program begins and ends with a jingle produced by the school's own choir together with the WHG Big Band. The program is presented by two moderators - a boy and a girl. The contributions on various topics are recorded by the students themselves and cut ready for broadcast. Contests and music complement the content of the contributions. The program is based on journalistic standards and is operated as an elective. A teacher oversees the project and leads the editorial meetings. The school radio is supported by a cooperation with Bayerischer Rundfunk.

Partner schools

Partner schools are located in Chartres , Varennes-sur-Allier , La Queue-les-Yvelines , Reims (all in France ), Houston ( Texas ), Sochaczew ( Poland ) and Sydney ( Australia ).
