Janek Õiglane (born April 25, 1994 ) is an Estonian athlete who competes in the decathlon.
Athletic career
Janek Õiglane first took part in national athletics competitions in 2010, at that time in the long jump and javelin throw. A year later he competed with the spear at the U18 World Championships in Lille. He reached 64.70 m with the javelin and ended up in eleventh place in the final. In 2012 he took part in a decathlon for the first time at national championships and was Estonian U20 champion in August. In 2013 he competed in the decathlon at the U20 European Championships in Rieti, where he finished fourth with 7604 points. Two years later he competed in the U23 European Championships in his home country in July . After the two days of competition, he won the bronze medal with a personal best of 7945 points. Also in 2015 he qualified for the World Championships in Beijing. He got 7581 points and finished 19th. In the summer of 2016, Õiglane took 12th place at the European Championships in Amsterdam.
In 2017, the Estonian Armed Forces soldier qualified for the World Championships in London. After all ten disciplines, he improved his performance by more than 200 points to 8371, which to this day (as of 2020) is his personal best. With his good javelin throw alone, he climbed up to fourth place in the penultimate discipline, where he also finished the competition after the final 1,500 meter run. At the end of 2017, he began training under the former Estonian decathlete Andrei Nazarov . He then almost completely missed the 2018 season due to a serious injury. In spring 2019, he first qualified for the European Indoor Championships in Glasgow, after having overcome the 6000 point mark in the heptathlon. During the competition in Glasgow, however, he injured himself in the pole vault and had to stop the competition. As a result, it took several attempts before he could qualify for the World Championships in Doha. With the victory at the Estonian championships he fulfilled the norm for Doha and started there in October. In the course of two days he set new best performances in a total of three sub-disciplines and ended up in sixth place with 8297 points.
