Jared Boll (born May 13, 1986 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is a retired American ice hockey player . The right winger played over 500 games for the Columbus Blue Jackets and the Anaheim Ducks in the National Hockey League between 2007 and 2018 . He embodied the player type of the Enforcer .
Career
Jared Boll began his career as a hockey player with the Lincoln Stars , for whom he played in the United States Hockey League from 2003 to 2005 . He was then selected in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft in the fourth round as the 101st player of the Columbus Blue Jackets . Initially, however, the winger played two years for the Plymouth Whalers of the Ontario Hockey League before joining the Blue Jackets NHL squad prior to the 2007/08 season . The American scored his first goal in the National Hockey League on October 10, 2007 against the Phoenix Coyotes .
As a result, Boll spent nine seasons with the Blue Jackets, in which he completed 518 games and scored 62 points scorer. He spent the lockout of the 2012/13 season at TuTo Hockey in Mestis, Finland . In June 2016, the Blue Jackets bought him out of his last year of contract (buy-out) , so that from then on he was looking for a new employer. He left the Jackets with the most penalty minutes (1195) in franchise history .
As a free agent , he subsequently joined the Anaheim Ducks and signed a two-year contract there. He fulfilled this and then announced the end of his active career in summer 2018. In total, he had completed 590 NHL games.
Boll was considered a classic enforcer , holding the franchise record for the Columbus Blue Jackets with 1195 penalty minutes . In addition, no player received more major penalties (174) than the attacker when he was active in the NHL between 2007 and 2018.
