Jeffrey Randall "Jeff" Brown (born April 30, 1966 in Ottawa , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach who played 834 games for the Nordiques de Québec , St. Louis, between 1985 and 1998 Blues , Vancouver Canucks , Hartford Whalers , Carolina Hurricanes , Toronto Maple Leafs and Washington Capitals in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .
Career
Jeff Brown began his career as a hockey player with the Sudbury Wolves , for which he was active from 1982 to 1986 in the Ontario Hockey League . During this time he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1984 in the second round as a total of 36th player from the Nordiques de Québec . Brown made his debut in the National Hockey League towards the end of the 1985/86 season for the Nordiques, for whom he played until 1989. During his time in Quebec, the defender was also on the ice for their farm team , Fredericton Express, in 1985/86 and 1986/87 .
On December 13, 1989 Brown was given in exchange for Tony Hrkac and Greg Millen to the St. Louis Blues , for which he played for the next four years. Towards the end of the 1993/94 season Brown was given to the Vancouver Canucks on March 21, 1994 along with Bret Hedican and Nathan LaFayette in exchange for Craig Janney . After a year and a half, Brown left the Canucks and got a contract with the Hartford Whalers , with whom he played until 1997. In the 1997/98 season, the Canadian was first appointed to the squad of the Whalers' successor, the Carolina Hurricanes . By the end of the season, the defender was also on the ice for the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Washington Capitals .
Following his playing career, Brown took over in the 2005/06 season as coach of the Missouri River Otters from the United Hockey League . From there he got through the St. Louis Bandits from the NAHL and the Indiana Ice from the USHL to the Ottawa 67’s from the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), one of the three highest Canadian junior leagues. In his first season 2014/15 in Ottawa he was elected to the Second All-Star Team of the OHL and directed the fortunes of the team (from 2015/16 also as General Manager) for a total of three seasons. After the 2016/17 season, he announced his resignation from all offices for personal reasons in order to be able to return to St. Louis with his family.

His son Logan Brown is also a hockey player and made his debut for the Ottawa Senators in the NHL in October 2017 .
