Jens-Martin Kruse

Jens-Martin Kruse (born September 17, 1969 in Buchholz in the Nordheide ) is a German Evangelical Lutheran clergyman. Kruse became known nationwide for his ten years as pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Christ Congregation in Rome and his commitment to ecumenical theological dialogue . Since February 1st, 2018 he has been the main pastor of the main church St. Petri in Hamburg .

Life

Jens-Martin Kruse comes from a pastor family. He is the son of Pastor Wilfried Kruse, who was senior pastor at the main church St. Petri in Hamburg from 1998 to 2002; the former Berlin bishop Martin Kruse and the church musician Helmut Kruse are his uncles. He grew up in his native Buchholz and in Hamburg. After graduating from high school in 1989 and doing community service , Kruse studied Protestant theology at the universities of Hamburg and Vienna from 1990 to 1996 . In 1996 he passed his first theological exam; In 2000 he was in Hamburg with a dissertation on the history of the Reformation on university theology and church reform. The beginnings of the Reformation in Wittenberg 1516–1522 as Dr. theol. PhD. After his vicariate in Reinbek and his second theological exam, he was ordained pastor on March 24, 2002 in the Schleswig Cathedral . This was followed by an international vicariate of the EKD with vacancy representation at the Evangelical Lutheran parish Rome 2002/2003 in the Italian capital Rome. From 2002 to 2008 he was pastor of the Quickborn - Hasloh parish .

From August 1, 2008 to 2017, Kruse was pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran parish in Rome at the Christ Church . One of the highlights of his tenure was visits to the church by Popes Benedict XVI. on March 14, 2010 and Francis on November 15, 2015 as well as the 200th anniversary of the congregation in April 2017.

On September 27, 2017, the church district synod of the Hamburg-Ost church district elected him in the first ballot as the successor of the deceased senior pastor Martina Severin-Kaiser as the new senior pastor of the Petrikirche. His ministry to St. Petri began on February 1st, 2018, and his festive introduction by Provost Ulrike Murmann took place on April 22nd, 2018.

Kruse is a Knight of Honor of the Order of St. John and a member of the Luther Society , the International Dietrich Bonhoeffer Society and the Friends of the Melanchthon Center in Rome.

Jens-Martin Kruse is with the bookseller Silke, geb. Count married. The couple has three children.
