Jeremy József Pierre Fekete (born August 15, 1960 in Oberentfelden ) is a Swiss documentary filmmaker, author and director.

Life

Jeremy JP Fekete studied art history and restorer of paintings on canvas and wood at the Istituto per l'arte e il restauro, Palazzo Spinelli in Florence (Italy) from 1979 to 1981. From 1984 to 1986 he studied modern sculpture and painting at the Lucerne School of Design and Art, and from 1987 to 1989 at the Basel School of Design as a student of the sculptor Johannes Burla. From 1984 to 1996 he took part in group and solo exhibitions. a. Art Basel , Lucerne Art Museum , Aargauer Kunsthaus and Kunsthalle Basel . In 1990 he founded the art company Protoplast together with the Swiss artists Heinrich Lüber and Philippe Cuny .

Fekete has been working as a freelance writer and director since 1994. It emerged u. a. Music and advertising videos for the music channels VIVA and MTV , numerous contributions for the culture magazine Polylux with Tita von Hardenberg , art and cultural documentaries for Arte , entertainment programs, documentaries, features and biographies for ARD and ZDF . For the ZDF series Idole , which he helped develop , he created a portrait of the actress Romy Schneider , in which the focus was not on the headlines, but on the friendship between two women. For the broadcast year 2013 he created the idea, development, conception and implementation of the series Schlösserwelten Europas / L'Europe en châteaux / Castles and Palaces of Europe for Arte.

Fekete's productions have been regularly nominated at international TV and film festivals since 2005. In 2009 he won the Bronze World Medal at the New York Festival 2009 in the category "Documentaries" with Im Bann des Moments - The Photographer Robert Lebeck , and in 2014 the Silver World Medal at the international Television & Film Awards at the New York Festival with the 5th part Estremadura / Portugal from the series Schlösserwelten Europa in the category: Documentaries - Cultural Issues, 2016 for the Arte – Discovery series Europe's legendary streets - in the footsteps of the Romans, the Bronze World Medal at the New York Festivals International Television & Film Awards and at the 49th Worldfest Houston International Film Festival the Platinum Remi Award. In 2016 the series Petrol Stations des Glücks , which he helped to develop and designed, was nominated for the 53rd Grimme Prize in the entertainment category. In 2019 he won with his Arte series Bahnhofskathedralen - Europe's travel palaces a . a. at the Gold Movie Awards in London the Goddess NIKE Award for best documentary of the year 2018.

Fekete is a jury member at the Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) in France and as a Grand Jury Member at the New York Festivals Television & Film Awards 2015, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020 in the USA.
