Jeremy Rebek (born February 8, 1976 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a former Canadian - Austrian ice hockey player who won the national championship title in three different countries in the fall of his career (2010 with the EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria, 2012 with the Belfast Giants in Great Britain and 2013 with Asiago Hockey in Italy).

Career

Rebek began his career with the Owen Sound Platers in the Ontario Hockey League and in 1996 he ventured to Europe for the first time, where he first played in the German Regional League and then moved to EK Zell am See in Austria. For an engagement with Toledo Storm in the East Coast Hockey League , however, he returned to North America, where he moved between several teams in the minor leagues in the following years . In the American Hockey League , he only made two missions, in which he failed to score a point . In 2003 he came back to Europe as the EC Graz 99ers were looking for a strong defender. Despite Rebeks good performance, the team went downhill in the following years.

After helping out at HC Ambrì-Piotta in the Swiss National League A at the end of the 2005/06 season , he moved to EC KAC with his Graz team-mate Warren Norris , where he and Jeff Tory were among the top defenders for two years and was able to set important accents on the offensive. However, since the KAC did not achieve any sporting success at that time, he decided to move to Salzburg in 2008, where the Red Bulls had become one of the dominant teams in the Austrian league. There he just missed out on the big success, as his former team won the championship with the EC KAC in his first year in Salzburg. In 2010, however, he became Austrian champions with the Red Bulls . After spending the 2010/11 season at the Vienna Capitals , he moved to the 2011/12 season with the Belfast Giants from the British Elite Ice Hockey League . With the Northern Irish he was able to win the main round of the EIHL and thus the British championship . In January 2013 he moved to Italy, where he signed with Asiago Hockey from the A1 series . After he won the national title there in 2013 , he ended his career

International

Rebek was granted Austrian citizenship in 2005, which entitles him to play in the Austrian national team . He made his debut on November 9, 2005 in a 3-2 win in a friendly against France in Turin, Italy . He was used at the 2006 World Championships when he was voted the tournament's best defender, and Division I in 2008 and the top division at the 2007 and 2009 World Championships , scoring three goals and six assists in 22 games. He also played with the team from the Alpine country in the Olympic qualification for the Winter Games in Vancouver 2010 .
