Until 1970 she belonged to Harde Skast Herred in the then Ribe Office and was their main parish until 1974, in 1970 Jerne came to Esbjerg Municipality in the expanded Ribe Office , which became part of the local government reform on January 1, 2007 in the "new" Esbjerg Municipality in the region Syddanmark has risen.

Of the 72,037 inhabitants of Esbjerg, 10,101 live in the parish (as of January 1, 2020). The church "Jerne Kirke" is located in the parish.

In the course of the growing expansion of Esbjerg, new parishes were split off from Jerne again and again, for example Vor Frelsers Sogn , later Zions Sogn (1912-14), Treenigheds Sogn (1961), Grundtvigs Sogn (1968) and Kvaglund Sogn (1977 ) in the 19th century ).

Still neighboring today are the inner city communities “Grundvig” in the southwest, “Vor Freiser” ( German : Our Savior ) and “Treenighed” (German: Trinity ) in the west, and Kvaglund in the northeast, as well as the rural community Skads Sogn in the north and Tjæreborg Sogn in the East.
