Jesper Duus (born November 24, 1967 in Glostrup ) is a former Danish ice hockey player and coach .

Career

Jesper Duus began his career as an ice hockey player in his Danish homeland with Hvidovre Ishockey , for whose professional team he made his debut in the second Danish division in the 1982/83 season. The defender then played for four years for the Rødovre Mighty Bulls in the AL-Bank Ligaen , with whom he became Danish champions in the 1985/86 season . He was then selected in the NHL Entry Draft 1987 in the twelfth round as a total of 241st player by the Edmonton Oilers , for which he never played. Instead he was under contract with Färjestad BK in the Swedish Elitserien for a total of seven years from 1987 to 1996 . With the Swedes he became champions straight away in 1988 . In addition, he lost with his team in 1988 and 1990 only in the playoff final.

For the 1996/97 season Duus moved to SB Rosenheim in the German Ice Hockey League , for which he scored three goals in 42 games and made eight assists. He spent the following season at VEU Feldkirch , with which he was Austrian champion before returning to Rosenheim for the 1998/99 season . There followed two years for the Danish international at MODO Hockey in the Swedish Elitserien, with whom he failed in the 2000 playoff final at Djurgårdens IF .

From 2001 to 2003 Duus played for his ex-club Hvidovre Ishockey in the AL-Bank Ligaen. There he was able to convince, so that he was voted the best Danish player in the league in the 2002/03 season. He then also spent two seasons with his league rival Herlev Hornets , where he worked as a player-coach. For another two years, the right-shooter was under contract with the Rødovre Mighty Bulls, where he worked simultaneously as a player and assistant coach in the first of the two seasons. After a one-year stint in Hvidovre at his previous employer, now renamed Totempo HvIK, where he scored 32 points in a total of 51 games and was elected to the league's All-Star Team, he played again for Rødovre from 2008 to 2011, for the he was assistant captain. In the 2011/12 season he was back on the ice for the Herlev Eagles before ending his career at the age of 44 at the end of the season.

International

For Denmark Duus took part in the C World Championships in 1990 and 1991 , as well as in the B World Championships in 1989 , 1992 , 1993 , 1994 , 1995 , 1996 , 1997 , 1999 and 2001 . He was also in his country's squad at the A World Championships in 2003 , 2004 and 2010 . At world championships up to and including the 2010 World Cup, Duus scored 19 goals in 87 games and provided 32 assists (51 points scorer).
