Club career

Career start at home

Joan Cervós Moro was born on February 24, 1998 in Andorra la Vella, the capital of the dwarf state of Andorra, and played in the youth division of FC Andorra from Encamp , one of the seven Parròquies in Andorra , as a child . For the club, which only rose from the Spanish sixth division in the 2014/15 season, he made his debut in the men's team in the 2015/16 season, but did not get beyond this one championship appearance and spent the rest of the time in the club's own youth. For the following season 2016/17 he was awarded to the lower-class Spanish club AE Josep Maria Gené from Barcelona . After a season in the capital of Catalonia , Cervós returned to the Pyrenees and was already a regular for FC Andorra in the 2017/18 season, with whom he finished ninth in the final standings of the fifth-class 1ª Catalana . The 1.80 m tall defensive player was used in 34 league games and contributed a goal.

Subsequently, Cervós joined the Spanish fourth division club FC Santboià in summer 2018 . For the club from the Catalan municipality of Sant Boi de Llobregat with games in Group 5 - Catalonia of the Tercera División , he then played in ten league games and moved back to FC Andorra at the beginning of 2019. While FC Santboià had to start the fifth division at the end of the season as 19th of 20 teams in the group, Cervós made 17 league appearances and one goal in this same season in the remainder of the 2018/19 season. In the final standings, the team took first place in the 1ª Catalana and thus managed to move up from the fifth to the third highest football league in the country, the Segunda División B , in which the team was last represented over 20 years ago.

After the promotion, the 1.80 m tall defensive player was given priority to the Andorran B-team and was rarely used for the first men's team. In the Segunda División B 2019/20 , Cervós was only able to record two championship appearances by the end of 2019. He made his league debut on November 3, 2019 in a 0-0 away draw against the B-team of FC Barcelona , when he was substituted on by his coach Gabri in the 87th minute for Martí Riverola . Cervós , who lives in Escaldes-Engordany, made his second appearance on December 8, 2019, in a 3-1 away defeat against CD Castellón , when he played as a left winger from the start , before being replaced by Álex Pachón in the 84th minute.

Moved to the United States

On January 7, 2020, the move of the then 17-time Andorran national player to the USL Championship was announced. The Colorado Springs Switchbacks , the farm team of the major league soccer franchise Colorado Rapids , had signed the Andorran for the entire 2020 game year . This made him the first Andorran football player in a US professional football league. He then made his professional debut in the first championship game on March 7, 2020, when he was used as a left-back by his coach Alan Koch for the full 90 minutes in a 2-1 away win against Oklahoma City Energy . Just five days later, due to the COVID-19 pandemic (or the COVID-19 epidemic in the United States ), gaming was temporarily suspended for at least 30 days.

National team career

U-17

Cervós gained his first experience in a youth national team of the Andorran Football Association in October 2013 when he played in three international matches of the Andorran U-17 national team . The games against their peers from Serbia , Greece and Estonia were all lost. Almost exactly a year later, he played the first round of qualifying for the U-17 European Championship in 2015 with the Andorran U-17 team . After three consecutive defeats against Denmark , the Czech Republic and Romania , Cervós and his Andorrans finished last in Group 12 and thus failed to advance to the elite round of the European Championship qualification.

U-19

In mid-November 2015, the young player, who was mainly used as a left-back or in the left midfield, started qualifying for the U-19 European Championship in 2016 with the U-19 team from his home country . After narrow defeats against Switzerland and Romania , a subsequent 1-1 draw against the Faroe Islands was enough for third place in Group 11 in the first qualifying round; However, this was not enough for a place in the elite round of qualification. After Cervós acted as a regular here, he did so almost a year later when he took part in the qualification for the U-19 European Championship 2017 with Andorra's U-19 national team . Once again used in all three international matches, the team under Jesús Lucendo , who had meanwhile taken over the U-19 squad of Andorra, performed even better than the year before. After a narrow 2: 3 defeat against Israel and an equally narrow 0: 1 defeat against Scotland , the Andorrans won the last group game against Liechtenstein 4: 2, but still failed to advance to the elite round of qualification.

U-21

At the age of 18, in late summer 2016, Cervós made the leap into the Andorran U-21 national team , now trained by Jesús Lucendo , in which he stood for the first time at the beginning of June 2015, at the beginning of the qualification for the U-21 European Championship 2017 was. On September 1, 2016, he made his debut in the penultimate qualifying game against Lithuania and was then used for the full game in the last qualifying game against Italy five days later . With just three points from ten qualifying games and a goal difference of 1:26, Andorra finished the qualification last in Group 2. Meanwhile, Cervós started the qualification for the U-21 national team in June 2017 with his home country -21-EM 2019 . Used as a regular in the first six group games, the defensive player on the left missed the last four qualifying games, as he was already in the senior squad of Andorra at that time . Once again as the bottom of the group with three points from ten games and a goal difference of 1:28, Andorra failed again clearly. Afterwards, Cervós, who was now a regular in the senior national team, was used in two qualifying games for the U-21 European Championship in 2021 before he reached the age limit of 21 years.

A-team

On June 3, 2018, Cervós made his national team debut for Andorra's A-Team when he was included in left midfield from the start in a loss to Cape Verde by coach Koldo Álvarez . In the game which, after a scoreless extension only in the penalty shoot- ended Cervos was in the fourth minute of stoppage time (90 + 4) by Jordi Rubio replaced. About six months later, he and his home country took part in the first-ever UEFA Nations League , the 2018/19 UEFA Nations League . In League D , Cervós, who was initially in the left midfield and towards the end of the competition in the right midfield, was considered in all six Group 1 games. As a regular player, he brought his team after four draws and two defeats only to fourth and thus last place in the group. Around four months later, Koldo used him from the start in qualifying for the 2020 European Championship . Between March and November 2019, Cervós played all ten qualifying games in his home country and was part of the starting line-up in nine of the ten games. During the qualification, the Andorrans managed, among other things, a 1-0 victory over Moldova , which meant the first victory since March 21, 2018 and only the seventh victory in the history of the Andorran national football team. In the penultimate European Championship qualifier, a 2-2 draw against Albania , the player who played in left midfield made an assist when he did the preparatory work for Cristian Martínez's 1-0 opening goal . As fifth in Group H (one point ahead of Moldova) Andorra failed because of a successful European Championship qualification. To date (as of March 18, 2020) Cervós has played in 17 international A matches and has remained goalless.
