Joseph Michael "Joe" Allen (born March 14, 1990 in Carmarthen ) is a Welsh football player who is currently under contract with Stoke City .

Career

Club career

Swansea City

Allen played for the Swansea City Youth since he was nine . At the age of 16 he made his debut in the Swansea professional squad in the 2006/07 season. In April 2009 he scored his first league goal for his team in the Welsh derby at Cardiff City . In the 2010/11 season Allen was a regular under coach Brendan Rodgers . Shortly before the start of the 2011/12 season, he signed a new four-year contract until 2015.

Liverpool FC

Allen moved to Liverpool on August 10, 2012 . He made his Premier League debut on August 18 in a 3-0 loss to West Bromwich Albion .

Stoke City

For the season 2016/17 changed Allen for 13 million pounds sterling to Stoke City .

National team

Allen played for the Welsh U-21 national team from 2007 . He made his debut in a friendly against Sweden and scored the winning goal in his team's 4-3 win. In May 2009 Allen made his debut in his country's senior national team . He was substituted on in the 80th minute of the friendly against Estonia . He then sat even a week later in the qualifying match for the 2010 World Cup against Azerbaijan on the bench but did not play and had to wait almost six months before he after failing World Cup qualifier on 14 November 2009 at the friendly against Scotland again was substituted on once, but this time after 56 minutes. This was followed by a 21-month break, during which he took part in qualifying for the 2011 U-21 European Championship with the U-21 team . The Welsh missed the playoffs of the group winners by a 0-1 defeat against Italy in the last group game, as they were worse after the 2-1 in the first leg against the Italians with the same points despite better goal difference in direct comparison due to the away goals rule .

On August 10, 2011, he was substituted on for an international match after 71 minutes in the friendly against Australia . In the two subsequent games in qualifying for the Euro 2012 , he only sat on the bench, but then played over 90 minutes in the penultimate qualifying game on October 7 and the last on October 10, 2011. The two games were won, but the Welsh had gambled away qualifying for the finals beforehand. Allen was now regularly nominated, but was often absent due to injury.

In the summer of 2012, Allen took part as one of five Welsh players with the British national team in the Olympic football tournament in which he was used in the four games. However, the British failed in the quarter-finals on penalties at the later bronze medalist South Korea , although he was not one of the shooters.

In qualifying for the 2014 World Cup , which began after the Olympic Games and which the Welsh missed again, he was only used in the last three games due to injury.

Before qualifying for the Euro 2016 , he was allowed to wear the captain's armband for the first time on June 4, 2014 in the 2-0 defeat against the Dutch testing for the World Cup .

In the European Championship qualification, things went surprisingly well for the Welsh and Wales were able to qualify for a major football tournament for the first time since 1958 and for the first time ever qualify for a European Championship finals. He was used in six games and received three yellow cards , so that he had to sit out once but could not play at the time due to an injury.

At the European Football Championship in France in 2016 , he was included in the Wales squad. He was part of the team and was on the starting line-up in all six tournament games. In the decisive group game against Russia, he was the template provider to make it 1-0. When Wales played for the first time, the team made it to the semi-finals, where the tournament ended against eventual European champions Portugal. After the tournament, he was nominated as one of two Welsh men for the team of the tournament .
