Johann Christian Wilhelm von Steinwehr (born March 12, 1711 on Wellen near Magdeburg ; † December 12, 1784 in Magdeburg) was a Prussian major general , chief of infantry regiment No. 14 and knight of the Pour le Mérite , governor of Potsdam and heir of Wellen.

He was the youngest son of Adam Christoph von Steinwehr and Hedwig Elisabeth von Hoym from the Esebeck house near Braunschweig .

Military career

In 1723 Steinwehr came to the court of Queen Sophie Dorothea of ​​Prussia as a page . From there he joined the Cadet Corps in 1725 . 1729 he was commissioned by King Friedrich Wilhelm as a cadet in his Leibregiment adopted and there 1738 Ensign . When Friedrich II became king, he transferred him as a lieutenant to the newly established Grenadier Guard Battalion No. 6 .

In 1750 he was promoted to staff captain , in 1754 to captain and in 1758 to major . In 1765 Steinwehr became a lieutenant colonel and in the following year commander of the Grenadier Guard Battalion. In 1770 he became a colonel and in 1774 he got the office of Potsdam. In 1776 he became chief of the "Wildau" infantry regiment No. 14 and in 1777 major general. In 1782 he received his departure and a pension .

He died unmarried on December 12, 1784 in Magdeburg.

In the Seven Years' War he fought in front of Prague , Roßbach , Leuthen and Liegnitz . He was in the storm on Burkersdorfer heights, in the battle of Reichenbach and the sieges of Breslau , Olmütz and Dresden . He was slightly injured in the Hochkirch .
