Johann Ernst von Kunheim (born January 30, 1730 in Königsberg ; † January 19, 1818 there ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Johann Ernst von Kunheim came from the original Alsatian , then in Prussia fundamentally worn- noble family Kunheim . His parents were the Prussian statesman Johann Dietrich von Kunheim (1684–1752) and Maria Helena, born von Wallenrodt from the Karmitten family (1790–1777).

He was married to Christine Sophie Freiin von Loeben († March 9, 1767) since October 5, 1763 . She was the daughter of the governor of Niederlausitz . His second wife was on September 11, 1769 Charlotte Sophie von Kanitz from the Podangen family (1748-1818).

Military career

Kunheim was already involved in military operations when he was twelve, and he was an eyewitness to most of the battles of the Seven Years' War . In doing so, he drew the attention of Frederick the Great . Kunheim also fought in the War of the Bavarian Succession . In 1788 he became a colonel and was awarded the Pour le Mérite order the following year . In 1790 he was promoted to commander of the "von Gillern" infantry regiment . In 1793 Kunheim received the "Alt-Bornstedt" infantry regiment stationed in Berlin as chief . He took part in the Polish campaign as major general in 1794/95 . On June 1, 1798 he was promoted to lieutenant general and on June 5, 1798 he was raised to the rank of count . On his 50th anniversary in service in 1802 he received from King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the Great Order of the Red Eagle . On July 11, 1803 he became commander of the Johanniterkommende Gorgast . In 1808 he moved to the Kommende Lietzen , which he held until 1811. When the Brandenburg ballot was dissolved and his commander lost, he was compensated with 5,700 thalers. For the war of 1806 he was activated again and received command of the first reserve corps between Dessau and Wittenberg . He received the Order of the Black Eagle for this . On October 25, 1806, he retired for health reasons.
