Johann Tobias von Kümpel

Johann Tobias von Kümpel (* 1733 in the Diocese of Fulda ; † May 21, 1804 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general and chief of the fusilier battalion No. 16.

Life

Kümpel served as a commoner in the Electoral Saxon army in 1746 , where he became a tambour in 1750 . During the Seven Years' War he fought in the Battle of Freiberg . In the battle near Döbeln , Kümpel was particularly honored because he managed to capture two cannons and bring them back over the Mulde . On October 15, 1756, the Saxon army had to capitulate at Pirna . So Kümpel came into Prussian service and on March 31, 1757 became an ensign in the "Hordt" free regiment. There he was second lieutenant in 1760 and on May 1, 1761 captain and commander of a hunter corps in the Freikorps "Kleist". After the Treaty of Hubertusburg on February 15, 1763, Kümpel received his resignation .

On October 3, 1771, he was reassigned as a major in the suite of King Friedrich II . Already on 5 October Kümpel received six weeks of vacation, to regulate its affairs at home, to it but immediately got to recruit the job, advertise . He must have been successful because on November 24, 1771 he received 101 thalers and 20 groschen for advertising and on December 7, 1771 another 500 thalers. In the run-up to the War of the Bavarian Succession on March 18, 1778, Kümpel came to the newly established Hordt Free Regiment and on July 24, 1778 he was appointed commander. In addition, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel on July 28, 1778 . At the end of the war he was not released, but received a tract of 572 thalers on July 27, 1779 .

On August 14, 1787 he was transferred to Konitz as a commander in the "Arnauld" light infantry regiment. This was dissolved soon afterwards and so on June 1, 1787 Kümpel became chief of the fusilier battalion No. 16. On June 2, 1788 he became a colonel . A year later on June 20, 1789, he received his resignation and 1200 thalers pension . On December 12, 1797, he was given the character of Major General by the King in recognition of the services he had rendered. Therefore, from January 13, 1798, he was listed among the titular officers. He died in Potsdam on May 21, 1804.

He was married to Johanna Christiane Müller (* 1736 - May 28, 1786). The couple had several children:
