Johann V. (Gützkow)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johann V. von Gützkow († October 25, 1351 on the Schoppendamm near Loitz ) was a count of Gützkow .

Research history

The differentiation of the individual Gützkow counts named Johann is just as difficult as it is the case with their relatives named Jaczo . From the original assumption that there were four Gützkower Count Jaczo of the same name, the research could be reduced to three or possibly two people. With the Gützkower Count Johann , Theodor Pyl assumed five of the same name, Roderich Schmidt only mentioned three in his brief treatise, while Detlev Schwennicke assumed that six counts Johann von Gützkow could be distinguished . In addition, the castle men of the same name from Wieck before Gützkow had at least one relative named Johann von Gützkow , who appeared in a document at the beginning of the 14th century.

It is certain and undisputed that Count Johann V. von Gützkow († 1351) was a nephew of Count Johann von Gützkow , who survived the year 1334. So it is less a question of generational classification than who of the previous authors is to be followed in the statement, which of the two counts brothers Johann III. and Johann (Henning) IV died in 1334. This is in turn consistently as Father John V. to look at. Furthermore, on the day of his marriage , Johann V is said to have led the Pomeranians to victory in the decisive battle of the second war of the Rügen Succession and to have died in the process. The body of the fallen count is also said to have been transferred to Greifswald and buried here in the family crypt.

Documented appearance

On September 24, 1348 took John iunior, Dei gracia comes de gutzek from Greifswald citizens and brothers Heinrich and Hermann Schöpplenberg a loan against and left these in return mortgage as a sum of the annual raising of Bede eight hoofs of the village Weitenhagen .

On September 28, 1348, Johannes, Dei gracia comes de Gutzecowe iunior, in consensus with his uncle Johannis senioris, comitis de Gutzecowe in Greifswald , sold his property of 10 hooves to Greifswald councilor Eberhard Walen and his heirs for 333 marks, 5 shillings and 4 pfennigs Müssow village .

On December 11, 1349, Johannes iunior, Dei gracia comes de Gutzecow, again in consensus with his uncle Johannis senioris, comitis de Gutzecowe in Greifswald with the right to redeem them within two years, sold another 20 marks from the annual increase in the value of 10 hooves of the village of Müssow to Eberhard Walen and his heirs.

family

Count Johann V is said to have fallen on the day of his wedding to Gese von Putbus , daughter of a Stoislaw , on October 25, 1351. Since there is a broad consensus on this, no descendants are assumed by any author. What is in dispute, however, is his family position with Elizabeth et Mechtildis, sorores, comitisse de Gutzecow , both named in a document on April 4, 1378. While Pyl saw both as his sisters, Hoffmann and Schmidt recognized them as his mother and aunt, while Rymar and Schwenicke again in both his grand bases, granddaughters of his uncle Johannis senioris, comitis de Gutzecowe and daughters of a count Johann VI. from Gützkow .

Literary reception

The battle death of Johann von Gützkow provided the material for several ballad poems, e.g. B. by Eduard Hellmut Freyberg, Wilhelm Meinhold , Hermann Finelius , Otto Vogel G. Karow and Hermann Ploetz . Theodor Pyl dealt with the subject in prose .
