Johann Georg Christoph Gottlieb von Werder (born May 13, 1783 in Magdeburg , † March 23, 1854 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were Lebrecht Timon Gottlieb von Werder (* around 1740; † October 25, 1805) and his wife Anna Maria, née Butz (e) († November 20, 1795). His father was a secret chamber secretary at the War and Domain Chamber in Magdeburg.

Military career

Werder visited the cadet school and was an apprentice at the Ecole Milliaire in Berlin. On December 19, 1800 he came as a private corporal in the infantry regiment “von Prussia” and advanced to the position of second lieutenant until mid-June 1803 . In the Fourth Coalition War Werder fought in the Battle of Auerstedt and was retreating to the Spandau Fortress , where he was taken prisoner after its surrender.

After the Peace of Tilsit , Werder was aggregated to the Leib-Infanterie-Regiment on April 12, 1809 and assigned to August 8, 1809. He served as a regimental adjutant from 1811 to 1813 and has since become Prime Lieutenant . As such, Werder took part in the campaign in 1812 , was wounded in the battle near Eckau and then fought near Ruhenthal . On May 31, 1813 he was promoted to staff captain and on June 19, 1813 he was transferred to the 2nd Guards Regiment on foot . During the Wars of Liberation he fought near Bautzen , Lindenau, Leipzig and Paris . For his behavior at Königswartha Werder received the Iron Cross 2nd class. On November 9, 1814, he was appointed captain and company commander.

After the war, he was promoted to major on March 18 and was awarded the service cross in 1825 . On March 30, 1829, he was in command of the 2nd Battalion in the 2nd Guards Landwehr Regiment. There he was appointed lieutenant colonel on March 30, 1830 and commissioned on March 30, 1832 to lead the 12th Infantry Regiment . On March 30, 1833, he was promoted to colonel and appointed regimental commander. At the same time he acted from September 24, 1833 as director of the division school and as president of the examination commission for portepeef ensigns of the 5th division . On September 11, 1837 he received the Order of St. John and on January 18, 1839 the Order of the Red Eagle III. Class with a bow. On August 10, 1840, Werder took his leave , conferring the character of major general with the statutory pension . He died in Berlin on March 23, 1854.

The commanding general of III. Army Corps , Prince Wilhelm of Prussia, wrote in his assessment in 1834: “Continuously and completely corresponds to the cherished expectations as a regimental commander. Very oriented in all employment relationships, his behavior is always tactful, and he therefore has a very favorable effect on the regiment, which one notices at every opportunity. "

Werder married Karoline Auguste Franziska Woermann (born September 20, 1794 - August 17, 1861) in Berlin on March 23, 1815, the daughter of the Major of the Artillery Woermann. The couple had several children:
