John Allen (born November 1, 1982 in Coatesville , Pennsylvania ) is an American basketball player . After studying in his home country, he played as a professional in Europe from 2005 , more than one season in Finland and the German basketball league . In the 2011/12 season he was active at Anwil from Leslau in the Polish league.

After playing a season in Finland and Israel , he was active in the 2007/08 BBL season for the New York Phantoms from Braunschweig . With the Phantoms, he narrowly missed the play-offs for the German championship in the ninth main round . He then played for a year in the 2008/09 season in the French LNB Pro A for SIG Basket from Strasbourg in Alsace . With SIG Basket he was eliminated in the play-off quarter-finals against the main round first and later champions ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne . For the 2009/2010 BBL season he moved back to Braunschweig, where he made the leap into the play-offs with the Phantoms. Here they first eliminated the main round first and defending champion EWE Baskets Oldenburg , but then retired in the semi-final series against the eventual champions Brose Baskets from Bamberg . After a few months in Finland for Kauhajoen Karhu from Kauhajoki , he returned to the BBL in early January 2011 and signed with the Eisbären from Bremerhaven , with whom he reached another play-off qualification with the eighth main round place. The polar bears were eliminated in the first round in 2011 against defending champions and later champions Brose Baskets.
