Jonas Liwing (born January 29, 1983 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player on the position of defender , who was active in the German ice hockey league for the Iserlohn Roosters and Hamburg Freezers from 2014 to 2016 .
Career
Jonas Liwing started playing ice hockey at IK Göta and later switched to AIK ice hockey . There he played in the youth department from 1999. From the 2000/01 season he was used in Sweden's highest junior league J20 SuperElit and showed excellent performance. Liwing was the top defender in the league in the 2001/02 season and achieved the best score of all players with a plus / minus balance of +51.
The following year he was part of the professional team of AIK and made his debut in the HockeyAllsvenskan . Liwing showed his offensive qualities again and scored eight goals. The next year he was again the best points defender of his team. For the 2004/05 season , Liwing moved to league rivals IK Oskarshamn . He stayed there for a year and then signed with Djurgården IF from Sweden's highest professional league. For the 2006/07 season, Liwing extended his contract by two years. Since he received less and less playing time, he was loaned to HC Innsbruck in Austria in January 2007 . For the next season Liwing did not return to Sweden, but played on loan for the Dragons de Rouen in the French Ligue Magnus . With his team he won the championship and the league cup. Liwing scored the most scorer points of all defenders in the league and was appointed to the All-Star team. For the 2008/09 season he moved back to the AIK. There Liwing and his team made it to the Svenska Hockeyligan in 2010 . In 2011 and 2012 AIK qualified for the playoffs and got to the semi-finals. From the 2012/13 season onwards, Liwing was assistant captain of his team and was again one of the most powerful defenders in attack. After AIK narrowly missed the playoffs last year, the team was last in the table in spring 2014 and had to compete in the Kvalserien . Since only three out of ten games were won, Liwing and his team were relegated to HockeyAllsvenskan.
In July 2014 he moved to Germany and signed a contract with the Iserlohn Roosters from the German Ice Hockey League , for which he played 52 games in the 2014/15 season and scored 25 points. In May 2015 it became known that the Swede had switched to league competitor Hamburg Freezers and played there in the 2015/16 season with the shirt number 46. After the Freezers withdrew from the DEL in 2016, Liwing returned to his home country and played for various clubs from the second Swedish ice hockey league Allsvenskan .
